Starting out. When is the other shoe going to drop?

So, I'm pretty sure we all know there's more to this game than just managing a fairy village. But to be honest, management sims aren't wholly my genre. I didn't expect my village to survive their first winter, and I have even less faith in the second.

How long do I have to last before this game throws its first surprise at me? Is there anything special I have to do to make it happen?

You need to dig down to near the bottom of the middle of the map, or expand your village and trees to reach the top right corner of the sky.
In either of those locations you'll find a door, which you click on to proceed into the next phase of the game.

I played for about 2 hours building my village up to a population of 50+ faeries at year 9 I think before entering either door, but I'd had them uncovered and ready for quite some time at that point.

My first winter was tough too. I had 6 faeries in residence at the start of winter, but was down to 2 by the end.
Seems like building lots of food storage is the key. I didn't really have any problems in the winters of later years.

to be fair its actually not another shoe dropping. Whats behind the door is something not connected to glitterman Grove at all. It IS just a game about a fairy villiage, thats part of the joke of the door,
