Random crashes

Been replaying this game (despite it being horribly buggy :P) because it's damn good. Unfortunately running into a technical issue: The game has started to randomly crash to desktop every few minutes.

It was pretty much fine for quite a while (I got through to the midterms with only one significant issue, being a corrupted save which wasn't a big deal as I've learned to keep multiple redundant saves). I then got one random crash, and now they've increased in frequency to the point that I have to save after completing a day because I can't trust the game not to randomly die when I'm reading through the log of events.

I've verified game files already, and I've deleted the game cache already. Neither has fixed the issue.

Any ideas?

Turn off Steam overlay? I have trouble with that on.
Compatibility mode?

Thanks, but I seem to have fixed the issue - required me to delete my most recent save, move the older saves to a backup, then clear my cache and start a new game to build a fresh cache before restoring the old saves.

A bit awkward and annoying to do, admittedly, but not the end of the world - particularly as the save game corruption issue has forced me to keep a LOT of rolling saves so I only lose a day of progress :P

I've been lucky I guess because I haven't had any crashes or bugs in my recent playthroughs.
Something I always do is make a new save each time, though. I never save over an old save, I just delete them.
Maybe that has something to do with it.
