Nonsense like this statement started at exactly the same time SOME female characters were no longer being hypersexualized for the delight of a subsection of straight male game players (others also liking it was a happy accident for the developers of yore).

Right on cue the people most accustomed to being pandered to received somewhat less pandering and now act like gaming is ruined because of it, all the thinking the current stuff you sometimes see is pandering but the stuff before was not.

That experiment where they gave young children differing amounts of cookies and then did varying levels of 'redistribution' is very relevant.
Theres a thing called fan service, where they stick to the source material. Pandering is when you deliberately abandon the community or the source material that made the franchise popular or a cult classic, and then do the opposite of what the community wants to satisfy a small subsect of journalists via DEI. All the while, the game suffers for it because it's not about the writing or the world building or even gameplay anymore. The strategy could not be more clear. Look up the director of Spiderman 2, Bryan Itihar when he says, "give the gamer what you know they want, so you can inject what they aren't familiar with or don't know they want, and make them like that stuff." It's on purpose. There are alot of devs like that now. What's more relevant is companies like sweet baby inc. Your statement could not be more uninformed. Look up some of this stuff I mentioned. Gaming is suffering because everything is the same now. No creativity. Everything is purposefully ugly. On the bright side, Japan and Korea still know what attractive females look like, and thankfully so do most people.

This.

Also, why do they make them so utterly unfeminine? They do not need to be damsels in distress but they often look like men aswell.

Look at Sarah Connor and Ripley in Terminator and Aliens. They are both normal built women with bad assery and wits. I am pretty sure people also found them attractive back in the days when they where new movies and they sure where no Pamela Andersons or other busty women. They simply where bad ass women that also where...women.

There is barely a middle ground in modern gaming, between western journos and the devs its always either hypersexualized according to them and "Strong independent female" characters that is men with female parts.

When was the last time a western studio released a fan servicey game?

Very important to note that 'badass women' back in those days did not mean 'mary sue who gets victory handed to her'. Those women had to actually work for their victories, and even showed symptoms of being under severe emotional distress when the situation was appropriate.

That aswell! They could lose things or fail. Not do everything. "BUH LUEK SKYWELKER NEVER LOST EITHER! AND LEARNED FAST!" lol. Just losing limbs and all that was not good enough.

Now they are need no man type of characters!

Never lost? He lost a hand and got his ass thoroughly kicked the first time he tried to take on Vader. While the second time, he would have been killed by Palpatine, had Vader not saved him.

He also failed that test with the tree, much to Yoda's disappointment.

Yeah, Luke was the son of Force Jesus, but he still had to put in the effort to succeed... unlike Rey...

Thats what i said. They think so, I do not. It is only idiots who think Luke and Rey is the same.
