Another red flag for me was that it was supposed to be an epic exclusive. But i dont even know if that deal is still in motion because its been so long.
Now maybe this games been in development hell for so long it now need to to adjust away from this false "modern audience" but if that's the case they should do that instead of whatever there people are doing now which seem to be the proven failure of attacking the actual existing audience.
On an obvious note!
TRANS WOMEN WANT TO BE WOMEN and I wanna play as a cute chick.. Is that so much to ask?
I have no issue with some ugly characters existing in a game, but I don't want the ugly stick for everyone without an option to change it.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but vampire the masquerade from its very core is woke as hell, it always has been if I remember correctly, it has always put contemporary politics into their game, and then molded it to their ideology though in the passed they were better at making it seem more balanced.
there is no way a game developed passed 2014 would be able to keep everything we fear and hate out of the game.
Have a mentally unstable community manager who's obnoxiously vocal about their politics on twitter and bans users who offend their political beliefs.
Bloodlines was a financial failure on launch and only became a cult hit a decade after release. The factors that made it a cult hit no longer exist and cannot be recreated.
The IP was cursed from the start.
this is one of the rabbit holes I went down a while back because the concept interests me, if I remember right its not narrative corners they backed themselves into it was a general failure to leverage anything at times where they hit big, i'm more talking about the world of darkness ip than just these games.
also, it didn't become a cult hit a decade later, it essentially was from the start, however mods to really fix aspects of the game I believe came out later on.
They missed a deadline at least once and PDX instead of sending them additional help (programmers) decided to shutdown entire project. Bloodlines 1 devs were fired, team was dissolved. Terrible mistake.
And after that, they decided to restart the project from scratch (they even scratched soundtrack by Bloodlines 1 composer despite the fact that it was already finished!). Another mistake.
And as a final mistake, they decided to give Bloodlines 2 to inexperienced The Chinese Room devs that specialize only in walking simulators. Brilliant idea Paradox!
In the end, at this point, Bloodlines IP just deserves a better owner. Paradox should stick to making their GSGs (EU4, Ho4, CK3 etc.); they keep failing as publishers and non GSG IP owners.
Anyway, if they make a piece of crap like Veilguard that has nothing to do with the actual franchise and more to do with some woke psycho's idea of a game which ended up putting another nail in Bioware's coffin, if not the final one, then well, maybe this franchise lived past it's time as well. Shame, but that's how it goes these days before companies figure out woke stuff does not carry a franchise.
I am a little curious to what "factors" you refer to that made the original game a cult hit and how they now longer exist.
I will admit that the style is very much 90's yet it's stylish enough to appeal to people. And vampires are always popular; certainly the buzz about Bloodlines 2 show there is a core audience even it would be unlikely to be a megahit like Call of Duty.
Then again, who thought that a Polish developer would put out two games that would sell about 80 million copies combined? A modern Bloodlines game has the potential to capture a similar audience (not saying tens of millions, mind you).
Unfortunately, the lack of talent behind Bloodlines 2, as well as the chaos, does not inspire hope. Sad.
Crazy that the first two games had none of the issues that are already present in bloodlines 2 isn't it?
It's almost like bloodlines 2 isn't actually progressive at all.
