Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

What do you want in a WOD game?
Obviously this can include what you would love to see in Bloodlines 2 given it's the forum for it but in the overall WOD setting what would your perfect game be? Werewolf, Demon, Mage, or Vampire (And/or the others I forgot).

Personally I've always wanted a turned base RPG. Since the massive success of BG3 I've regained my hope somebody will consider making a game based on one of the settings (My preference is Vampire for the RPG). Not sure if I'd trust Larian to make it but I really hope BG3's success shows the genre is not a dead end.

A cool story where the monsters pretend to be human to hide from hunters. Intrigue, backstabbing, and monster (not human) politics. I want a video game that is like Night Road.

Good question, honestly the gameplay type doesn't bother me as long as it has story. WoD has always been about story, that's why the d10 system it uses is so very dynamic and most things can be resolved durign TTRPG session with just one roll for a check. It's also very player friendly due to its simplicity and no high math required. My desired game would have choices, lots of choices, they don't need some grand consequences on huge world-saving scale, but it needs to be a role-playing game with multiple ways to solve quests, sometimes it's going all guns blazing, sometimes it's stealth, and sometimes it needs to be a silver tongue.

If the game is named Bloodlines 2? I think it should follow the gameplay of Bloodlines 1 system-wise, just be up to today's graphical and technological standards. Mortal Kombat games are named like they are and keep the same core formula for years, same with Deponia being point and click, fifa being soccer etc. A name suggests certain level of expectations which the fans that have been replaying bloodlines 1 need to feel 'at home'.

As for what I would love to see in regards to WoD overall? Exploring the hidden secret society, blend into it, establish myself as someone there. Have my personalized character that I can immerse myself in. Exploration is very important aspect and being rewarded for thinking outside of the box. Baldur's Gate 3 and Original Sin did that, the game did have story but if you explored, moved those barrels to get on top of roof to find hidden object which could unlock a quest outcome? It was rewarding. Bloodlines 1 had it as well as unique clans, like Malkavians or Nosferatu, that completely altered how you needed to play the game, it offered unique choices, giving high level of replayability. It's something that both of Larian games have.

The lack of those clans in Bloodlines 2 is concerning, it seems we are left with those bland ones that have least amount of differences between them and no quirks.

Several things, actually.

A game in the style of Dishonored 1. You'd be vampire working as thief/assassin, only known by your nickname and could choose from a few clans. Was thinking like Nosferatu or Malkavian or Banu Haqim. Clans like that.

A strategy game. Could be a RTS like C&C or Warcraft set between Anarchs, Camarilla, Sabbat and Hecata. Yes, probably not working with the Masquerade but eh, this one would be fun > lore. Could even add Second Inquisition as DLC I guess.

A strategy game more along the lines of the various mafia-themed games where you battle for control in a city would be nice too. Building night clubs, controlling blood banks, stuff like that. Might work better for turn-based though, I guess.

Since I have come to appreciate RPGs with pixel graphics and no voice-over whatsoever, I wouldn't say no to one o them either.

If we talking actual Bloodlines 2, then give me Bloodlines 1 but using the newest version of the same engine. Also with better balance and otherwise just more of what BL1 had.

Nothing. I want passionate devs to make new IPs rather than beating this dead horse. Vampires, werewolves, witches and so on are public domain concepts. You can make your own games about them.

I want to see original vampire IPs where there are multiple political factions, that you join by choice (not fixed lineages), that coexist rather than killing each other on sight, and have their own magic systems. Vampire: The Requiem is a good example: Invictus have mystic oaths, Carthians have cosmic law, Ordo Dracul have coils of the dragon, Circle of the Crone have pagan magic, Lancea+Sanctum have theban sorcery.

I want werewolves, other shifters, and for them to have a culture that isn’t psychotic ecoterrorists. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea?

I want magicians, I guess? Not sure why when the others have magic already. Give them a culture that isn’t psychotic luddites tho. Again, who thought that was a good idea?

I’m not gonna bother mentioning other species because you’re probably not familiar anyway.

A city-scale expansion/management sim. Think like a civ style game but minus the building aspect.

Some nice ideas so far. Makes me even more now.

Lol, that's actually what crossed my mind when I saw Bloodlines 2's whole "Be an Elder" thing. Since running around the city, wasting blood and beating up everything you see is the least Elder action you can take as you'd be behind the scenes controlling the city from the shadows.

I know you've said this before but did you know Underworld(Sony) was sued by White Wolf resulting in a settlement? Yes, Vampires and the like are public but how WOD uses them can be copyrighted (The settlement from Sony appears to be more a desire to release their movie on time so I don't know if White Wolf had a super strong case, possibly just an annoying one). This could be why most games featuring these creatures are just mindless hack and slash IP's

omg. I'm so sick of hearing this stupid excuse. No offense

I read the statements. White Wolf was full of crap. They claimed 80 points of similarity, which Sony rebutted. You can read it here: https://web.archive.org/web/20031218033420/http://flail.com/9-25-2003%20Sony%20Response.pdf

It was your typical frivolous lawsuit. It's pointless to bring it up. It's not even the same company. The people who actually made the complaint were fired decades ago.

This makes about as much sense as bringing up the lawsuit regarding Spots the Space Marine as an excuse to not use the word "space marine". The company that owns 40k, Games Workshop, sued a housewife for selling a novel titled Spots the Space Marine. Games Workshop lost the suit.

Or claiming that Tolkien owns elves and dwarves and orcs when D&D and video games have been using them freely for decades.

White Wolf doesn't own the concept of the urban fantasy genre. You can make your own games with a similar premise of bickering cliques and not infringe on their copyright. Unless you're actually using the names from White Wolf games (in a way that cannot be defended as derived from a public domain source), then you're fine.

I know because a former White Wolf writer made his own vampire game in 1997 and wasn't sued for it. The Everlasting: The Book of the Unliving was released in 1997 by a writer who had previously worked on WW books. It had a dozen detailed writeups for different playable vampire bloodlines, such as the Draculas and Bathories and such. It was not sued.

No offense. I’m exhausted and my tone is… ugh
