Without different actives for each clan that shares a discipline, or a clan lineup where there would be zero redundancy (possible with some abominations, like Ventrue without Dominate), I'm struggling to see the point of the thin-blood disciplines supplanting a clan's. It just confuses things with no worthwhile payoff.
As I've said elsewhere, I really don't want to have to play Nosferatu just to experience Obfuscate. The idea of making a discipline exclusive by artificially removing it from other clans, is just silly. I'd rather have a system of unique actives, or just give the clans all 3 disciplines as they're meant to be, overlap be damned.
No, there almost certainly won't be Lasombra.
There's a 1.6% chance the next clan picture is Lasombra; 98.4% it's Ventrue. But there's a zero chance the final photo is Lasombra; it's either Malk or Nossie.
Despite my affinity for Toreador, I would have preferred Lasombra instead. I was hoping that one of the reasons V5 was being used, was to include the Lasombra in the Camarilla in the base game. But it appears that wasn't a priority.
Seeing how Bloodlines 2 is going with each clan having 2 of their 3 disciplines, one being unique to the clan, makes it even less likely for a clan like Lasombra to be playable.
I hate to be a broken record with my failed theory, but it was technically possible.
Brujah: Potence/Celerity. Tremere: Thaum/Auspex. Lasombra: Obten/Dominate. Ventrue: Presence/Fortitude. Malkavian: Dementation/Obfuscate.
The only weakness in this lineup is taking Dominate from Ventrue. I consider that a worthwhile sacrifice to have the Lasombra in the base game, as well as absolutely no overlap.
It's a Paradox game. Chances are they'll eventually add every existing clan as DLC and then make up some new ones so they can add those too.
I have to admit, that was not a bad theory you had there :) But not only are you sacrificing Ventrue's Dominate, the Toreador are left out, and future clan FLC will begin to overlap greatly, leaving some of them without unique discipline whatsoever. So, in order to accommodate the Lasoblra, all kinds of sacrifices and limitations have to be imposed on other clans.
You mentioned V5, but the V5 core book lists only 7 clans, the ones included in BL1. Other clans were added later on in Camarilla, Anarch, and Chicago by Night books, but that pretty much shows us what the creators consider essential and what secondary and optional.
Looking at the poll in this very forum about preferred clans also clearly shows that for most the only clan less popular than Lasombra from the core 7 are the Nosferatu.
It depends on the major plot of the game. If the Sabbat is made out to be the Big Bad, it's highly unlikely the clans associated with them would become playable.
The point is that giving us a cool Thinblood discipline and then taking it away once you get a Clan would be a baffling decision, it would feel like you're losing power when adopting a Clan should make you gain it.
