Issue when recruiting first members

I have finished my first two fights together w/ Marcus, now I have to go after the ants. I may recruit some helping hands, go to the campfire, talk to one of them and ask them to "come with me". Next the character screen opens showing Marcus and my new hire. From here on I seem to be stuck, nothing works to get me out of this screen, to keystroke, no escape (back to main menu), only way is to click on one of the portraits to release that character, which brings me back to the game screen and to the campfire.
Is there not supposed to be a button to leave that character screen? Both in windowed and in fullscreen mode I do not see any such button. Thanks!

Your Charisma is 5 so you can only have 1 follower, which is why you can't close the screen until you dismiss one of the followers. Naturally, Marcus is better so I suggest you keep him.
