Forge or buy packs?
I'm thinking Forge is usually the better option since you can at least sort of control what colors come up after the first few picks, but is buying two packs and saving 500 gold better?

Gauntlet untill you hit Master rank for the rank up chests. Everytime u kill the boss u get 1 pack + gold from ranking up untill Masters.

Forge untill you hit Master rank for the rank up chests. Everytime u kill the boss u get 2 packs + gold from ranking up untill Masters.

Draft after that is the best value for your gold because you get to pick 48 cards from drafting itself + the rewards.

Pretty much this.

Gauntlet and forge till master, then gauntlet still for farming gold for drafts.

Drafts after you get to first master forge win. Better return for gold due to 48 card picks and chance at at least 4 rare/legendaries, won't be the first time I've left a draft with 7 or 8 or more.

It depends how bad you are at Forge and whether you enjoy playing constructed rather than gambling.

Draft
draft is better

so heres a little lesson in draftery:

i went forge until i had all important basic cards;

as soon as you have one or two decent decks you should go play draft;

i get an average of 7-8 rares per draft with the one or other legendary; much more than from forge

in need of commons and uncommons: forge
in need of rares, legendarys, dust: draft

For new players or players who aren't skilled in limited, Forge is better than Draft. People who say draft is better compare 1 forge to 1 draft, but you can do 2 forges for the same price as 1 draft. When you take that into account, forge becomes a better value. Unless you can consistently place well in draft and earn the diamond chests. If you can do that, then draft is for sure much better.

Actually we're basing it on the draft plus going 0-3.

Forge is 1, possbily two chances at a rare or legendary plus balance in mostly commons.
Draft is 4 Rares/Legendaries MINIMUM plus balance with a good smattering of uncommons.

Even with a good handle on the game and a bomb deck you can still 0-2 in Forge, same as you can 0-3 in draft.

low end forge will award 2 rares, 5 or 6 uncommons and a pile of commons for 5k.
low end draft will award 4 rares, @8 to 10+ uncommons plus 2 uncommons and @500 gold from chest even for going 0-3 due to the automatic 2 silver chests for the same cost.

When you know the game you'll actually pass up bad rares in draft for usable cards, but at the start it's not unusual to pull 7 or 8 rares or more by greed drafting. Even if you dust them that's 2 Rares you actually need for decks vs a chance that even by funnelling forge you get 2 unusable rares in your colours.

While building your gauntlet farmer forge is better since you can funnel the offers to give you deck materials, after you have a gauntlet farmer it's draft all the way as the gold/dust gain even for greed drafting then going 0-3 is better.

All Diamond chests do is speed up your draft re-entry, anyone that is beyond needing to greed draft can farm up gold for draft without issue anyway.

Forge x 2 - sometimes less than a pack worth of rares plus possibly unwanted uc/c
Draft x 1 - 4 packs + worth of rares plus 500 gold plus lots of commons and uncommons, all usually ones you'd actually want

It really is a no brainer when you know the spread/outcome to go for draft as soon as you have a gauntlet farmer to speed up a ranked deck and collection.
