2) The AI doesn't do optimal plays a lot. A lot. A lot.
You should be able to get masters rank in Forge, sure you'll fail a few times, but you ought to get there if you just keep at it.
If you're thinking it's like you're playing against a top-level human player with a top-level deck making top-level plays - well it's not like that at all. You'll see the AI pull some nice stuff, but it's quite beatable.

If you fnd yourself sucking at draft, look up B.R.E.A.D, it's a concept from MtG, but holds true for any draft game. It goes like this, when picking cards prioritize:
B - Bombs, stuff that have a major effect on the board, basically deal them, or you lose. e.g. Impending Doom
R - Removal - there will be lots of creatures and you need to be able to remove the most threatening ones. Execute is a good draft pick and so is Alchemical Blast and even Daze.
E - Efficiency/Evasion - creatures that have good cost/stats ratio, flyers, unblockables, etc.
A - Aggression - cheap creatures to give you something to play with in the early game
D - Dreg - whatever's left in the pack and looks the least carpy.
Honestly, can't say the same with Draft :)
