Chivalware - November 5 Launch + Steam Next Fest Demo

Oct 12

Hello everyone!

Max here again, AKA Regal Pigeon, with some news! After a long journey I’m beyond excited to let you know that I’ll be launching Chivalware on November 5 2026 - and the current demo will be participating in Steam Next Fest!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AXsBGGfdek

I’m really excited to finally let you get stuck into Chivalware. The Steam Next Fest demo has the first three of five playable characters, including the Disk, Tank and Jester Knights. You can try 45 out of 80 weapon disks, 86 of over 150 upgrades and there are countless builds to master.

For the demo I’m letting players try out the first two of our four biomes, and two challenge levels to test you and make your run more unpredictable (and considerably more difficult, too).

I also wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who have stopped by to support me throughout the journey. Whether this has been with feedback, sharing with friends or just words of encouragement, your support has been incredible.

I’m so excited to see what you think during Steam Next Fest, and then again on November 5 for the full launch. If you’d like to keep up with things, you can follow me on X or come and chat over on Discord.

CHIVALWARE - NEW DEMO + NEW GAMEPLAY TRAILER

Sep 14

Hello everyone!

It’s Max, AKA Regal Pigeon, the developer behind Chivalware.

I’m super excited to announce that a new demo is live now, with more content, new features, and many improvements since the first demo!

To give you a taste of what awaits in this new demo and the full game, here’s a new commented gameplay trailer:

DEMO NEW CONTENT AND FEATURES

Disclaimer

Due to the amount of balancing and new gameplay features, previous saves from the first demo have been deleted. Saves from demos will not be carried over to the main game.

New Zone: The Dunes

Once you’ve braved the Swamp, you’ll be able to explore a new arid, inhospitable landscape, at the end of which you will face the dreaded Rattlespine!

New Playable Knights

As you progress through the King’s leaderboard, you’ll unlock two new knights, each with a unique gameplay gimmick:

The Tank Knight - reach rank 64 of the King’s Leaderboard

The more damage the Tank Knight deals, the more armor shards he picks up. Equip him with some heavy melee weapons, or even explosives, and enjoy reckless, up-close and personal action!

The Jester Knight - reach rank 42 of the King’s Leaderboard

When the Jester Knight matches tiles, he launches a pin into the air. Catching the pin equips the corresponding weapon, charges it, and grants an extra damage bonus for a few seconds.

New Bosses

Once you beat the bosses at the end of each zone, you’ll unlock alternate bosses for each. Who knows which one you’ll face in the next run?

New Challenge Level

For players who succeed in runs with the first challenge level (harder enemies), the next will force you to choose a bugged chip at the start of each zone: a debuff or unstable effect that will make your run considerably more difficult and unpredictable!

New Features

You can unlock the following features by climbing the leaderboard:

Item Scrapping: gain coins by scrapping unwanted combat rewards.
Disk Replacement: choose between three random weapon disks at the start of your run to immediately orient your build!
Random Deals: select between two beneficial deals (processor, chip, coins, energy, etc.) at the start of each run, each tied to a penalty (e.g., coin debt, lose health, etc.). This will remain optional.

Misc. Improvements & changes

Many weapons, chips, and processors from the first demo have been redesigned and rebalanced.
A new status effects tab has been added in the codex: it provides a detailed explanation of all effects encountered during your run.
Added text explanations under icons that indicate the next encounter.
Improved item generation to ensure Chips and Processors given as rewards after combat are usable given your current build.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS WELCOME

As noted in this previous blog, your feedback on the first demo has been incredibly helpful. Please let me know what you think of the new features, balancing, and more right here on the Steam Forums or on my Discord[discord.gg]!
I’ll be reading your feedback closely as I work on the final release of the game. Thank you for your support!

CHIVALWARE - DEMO FEEDBACK

Aug 13

Hello everyone!

It’s Max, AKA Regal Pigeon, the developer behind Chivalware.

I’ve been reading your comments, reviews, and watching your playthroughs. They gave me some useful ideas for the final version of the game:

More build agency & replayability

I’m working on features that will increase player agency over their build before and during runs:

An option to select a random weapon disk at the start of each run
An option to select between two beneficial deals (processor, chip, coins, energy, etc.) at the start of each run, each tied to a penalty (e.g., coin debt, lose health, etc.). This will remain optional.

Better clarity/comprehension

Many of you reported being confused by the various icons, especially those tied to effects, weapons, and chips.

I’m currently working on a status effect tab in the codex, which will provide a detailed explanation of all effects encountered during your run.

Item Generation Improvements

I wanted to minimize occurrences of players feeling like they received a useless reward. That’s why Chips and Processors that are offered as rewards or in various events will first be validated to ensure that they are usable, given the player’s current build.

For example: the storm core processor, which triggers when a charge weapon is fully charged, will only be generated if the player has a charge weapon in their loadout.

Shop items however will not be affected by this to allow opportunities for players to pivot their entire build if desired, and (to a lesser extent) account for the fact that all types of items are sold at shops, some of which may enable the effects of others.

Misc

I’m also planning various smaller improvements, such as:

Turning chromatic aberration on/off
An option to salvage unwanted items for a small amount of coins
Other minor fixes and balancing.

Update timeline

To make sure everything works as intended in the complete version of the game, especially for balancing, please note that these changes won't be available in the demo but only in the final version of the game. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

And please feel free to share more feedback. I may not be able to answer all of them, but I promise I will take the time to read them. Thank you again for your support!

Fun game

Very fun gameplay Would be nice if what certain status effects did was listed when they were mentioned under a chip or processor. Would also be nice if the merchant that asks you for a chip displayed what the chip they're asking for was rather than just saying its name. runs that have an item shield or sustain like rolling stone makes the game immensely easy compared to runs without which happens surprisingly often. the % damage upgrades are a little boring but they ultimately get the job done. wishl...

Game won't start

My game will launch into the "press A" to start screen, but no button on my controller or key on my keyboard registers. So I can't play it.

Some feedback for the game

Hello, The demo is pretty fun! I had a great time playing it. Can pretty consistently clear both zones after a couple of runs, I have one piece of feedback to give regarding playstyle, although note that i've played upto difficulty 2, the last of demo. As of now, it is very easy to just keep fighting for an extended period of time slowly and dodging. Moreover the chips that give heal and armor are pretty busted because of the same reason. In combat, there is practically very very few enemies that scale ...

A idea for the game

I dont know if it is already in planning but i would think it would be really cool if the diffrent charachters are really diffrent in their playstyle and the chips/buffs are exclusive for them or atleast some stat changes like less movement speed( like a cooldown that you cant spam your movement in every direction) and more attack damage for the diffrent charachters...
