White Zone Hinted Walkthrough
If you're having trouble getting started. Only read as much as you need to.

The White Zone

Who am I? What's going on?

1. The white zone is a tutorial (a harsh one).
2. As you figure out your way through the section, pay attention to what you're doing. The skills and techniques that you use here are used throughout the game.
3. If it feels like you're trapped or can't progress, the game is trying to teach you something. Keep exploring or playing around until you figure out a way through.
4. Remember what you just learned and apply that knowledge in the future.

How do I respawn?

1. You don't.
2. You can load a save...
3. ..but at this point you don't have any saves.
4. So you need to restart.
5. Of course you just lost all the progress you made since the beginning of the game. You'll have to do it all over.
6. There is a save room in the white zone, and it even comes with some disks.
7. But if you use a disk now, you won't have it for later. If you save too frequently you might run out.
8. There's no way to be sure that the progress you've made is 'worth' spending a disk, because you don't know how many disks you will need for the whole run.
9. Either save now and spend the disk, or wait and risk losing progress.
10. Welcome to Haydee!

I keep falling in a chasm!

1. Keep trying!
2. It's a long jump but you can make it.
3. You have to sprint at it, and jump as you're stepping over the edge. It's a matter of timing.
4. Done correctly you will grasp the edge of the wall as you're falling past it and you can lift yourself up.
5. This is almost, but not quite, as far as you can jump on the level. So try to get a feel for this distance.

How do I get that armor?

1. You need something to open the safe up.
2. Specifically, a key. That lock icon is where it goes.
3. Specifically, a white key, to match the color of the lock icon.
4. You find one later on, and you can backtrack here.
5. 'Course if you use it you won't have it for the door that requires it.
6. Fortunately there's a replacement keycard underneath the armor.
7. Remember this sequence of events, because you'll do a lot of backtracking like this later in the game.

How do I bypass that room with the fence?

1. Duck down.
2. When you're near the edge, squatting, press the duck button again.
3. You have to be pointed the right way.
4. Specifically, your butt has to be facing the edge you want to drop over.
5. The arrows painted on the ground and walls actually tell you what you need to do, though that may only be clear after you've done it.

What's with that robot?

1. You ought to open that thing up and kill him.
2. But not with your bare hands.

How do I gun?

1. You need a gun, and you need ammunition.
2. The gun is in the crate where you see the first robot through the wire.
3. The ammunition is in a jumping puzzle section.
4. You reach it from the door in the save room that takes you through a room that has a locked-off section.
5. After getting both items, put your gun on your quickbar, and reload it (or drag the ammunition onto the gun in your inventory).
6. Ammunition is scarce and finite so conserve it as much as you can.
7. Note that the 'key' you needed to progress was something other than a keycard.

What's with that red button?

1. Press it.
2. It opened up something!
3. But you still can't get through.
4. This happens a lot. There are two buttons necessary to open this passageway, but right now you can only access one of them.
5. Remember this area later on, and look for an opportunity to work your way down to the second button to open the passageway.

How do I get past the white zone?

1. Don't read on until you've dealt with the robot.
2. Did you search the corpse he was guarding?
3. Have you seen something purple that this keycard might fit?
4. There's a button in the robot room you might have missed. Be sure to explore the whole area before heading to the obvious exit.
5. Taking that new exit will dump you in a room you've seen before.
6. Now that you see the purple door, you just have to get to it.
7. Study the geometry of the room. It seems like there's a way into that crawlspace somehow.
8. Now that you have some tools you should try to find the entrance to that crawlspace. You might have to backtrack a little.
9. Return to the room where you found the white keycard. One of the panels can be unscrewed.
10. The geometry of the game is consistent. Following the crawlway exit through several rooms will lead you to the entrance. Remember this for later.

This is some bridge.

1. This is an important room.
2. You'll come back here a lot.
3. This is the hub area where you reach the green, blue, and red zones.
4. All three are immediately available.
5. A lot of the game is now open to you. It's not immediately clear where you can go, where you need to go, or what you need to do, so you need to explore a little and figure it out.
6. If you feel like you're stuck, you may need an item from another area to progress. Or you just may need to think harder.
7. To fully enjoy the game try to work it out on your own. If you get totally stuck then maybe it's time to read a hint.
8. But if that's too much work...
9. You need an item you don't have to get past the first room of the blue zone, although this is not immediately obvious.
10. So try the red or the green.
11. Green is probably easier.
