Huge performance hit with HBAO+
Man this Nvidiaworks sucks big time, when i use SSAO i get 120~144fps, when i choose HBAO+ i get huge fps drops like 50~80 fps.

Yes, because taking a photorealistic game and bringing out the textures even more while NOT expecting a fps hit? Makes sense. :steamfacepalm:

HBAO+ is a more accurate solution for ambient occlusion, removing many problems that SSAO has. Of course it has a bigger performance hit, it is not meant to be better with the same performance, it is like the ultra AO setting.

It's like complaining that MSAA is more intensive than FXAA.

People ask for graphics settings, complain when settings are too much to handle/fathom.

This. The option always is not using it. I don't use any AA and I don't see a reason to complain they offer ones that takes too much FPS. Well, duh. That's why I don't use it. And I don't need huge screen, 24" with 1200p imo even doesn't any AA.

It's poorly implemented, but you're right -- it isn't like you need to use it if you don't want to. It looks better, but not enough to justify the performance hit (especially when it precludes a constant 144 fps for me personally).

More options is always preferable, even if they aren't all ideal for everyone.

RX 480, 60 FPS with everything maxed out and vsync on.

The problem is that own nvidia creates graphical settings that destroy performance in games, by the way i have a gtx 1080 AMP extreme, I7 4790k OC @ 4.5GHz and 16GB of RAM so my specs are more than enough to handle the game.

SSAO and HBAO are screen space effects, (it's in the name - Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), therefore it is entirely independant from the 'textures'. Only the screen resolution and polygon density factor into performance.

No, it isn't. The performance of HBAO vs SSAO is greater than it should be - the 'RE Engine' imeplementation is horribly inefficient.

Where are people complaining about graphics settings? The implementation of HBAO is awful - that's all.

Thanks DaveFace, finally someone thinking right.

Well.... this will be the first game to date that I can think of where the perf hit is that big going from ssao to hbao so if anything its probably just bugged atm.

Good thing is that this game is too dark to tell any noticeable difference between ssao and hbao from a visual standpoint.

This is a bug. HBAO+ normally does not take this much performance. It also has some visual glitches it doesn't normally have.
