HBAO+ MASSIVE performance drop
Just as a heads up to anyone else, if you're getting pretty 'meh' performance, turn HBAO+ to SSAO.

I was barely keeping 60 fps at 1440p on my GTX 1080. Afterwards it literally doubled my FPS. No idea why it's so damn demanding.

Same on my 1070 SC. HBAO+ is just demanding ingeneral it seems. I have to turn it SSAO in FARCRY 4 to avoid severe drop in FPS

MSI 1070 gaming x here and at resolution scaling 2 i can get 60 fps if i turn down the shadows to high and HBAO+ to SSAO.

Shadow are the most demanding of all settings.
Ambient occlusion and anti aliasing are the second.

kind of weird. Playing with FXAA + TAA / HBAO+ and very high setting with a MSI 970.
People with a 1070/1080 should easily run this demo on 1440/60 ultra.

I turned up everything to max except for resolution scaling and was using HBAO+ with two 1070's and was experiencing massive frame drops, but I changed the rendering method from normal to interlaced and it runs at 60 fps with no drops.

HBAO+ is always a mess.

GTX 980 here. Have no issues running everything at the highest. Must be a driver issue with the 1000 series?

What resolution? I'm having the same issues as the 1000 series owners with my 980ti. As soon as I switch to SSAO, it's smooth sailing with everything else maxed at 1440p.

I use HBAO+ on my 1070, everything maxed out at 1080p. I have no issues, getting 100-120+ fps.

After playing around a bit it seems I only really get the performance hit (between SSAO and HBAO) at resolutions 1440p and above and especially at 4K...

Mine runs just like Never Forgive Me-Never Forget Me at 1080p fully maxed and HBAO at 100+ fps, the higher the resolution goes the higher the fps impact is when comparing HBAO to SSAO...

Can anyone else confirm this?

I haven't tried 1440p and 4k yet. But I will and get back to you.

Yep and also it doesnt ad anything in this game that you can actually see over ssao because the game is simply too dark to see the difference and already has some heavy shadowing going on.

At 4k res with hbao my fps was 17-18fps and at 4 with ssao on my fps is 54-60.

Eh, I found it to be hbao... I dont gain much of anything going from very high shadows to high shadows.

Because interlaced is a lower quality rendering method.

I do hold 60fps at 1440p with hbao on but would rather do 4k or close to it with ssao and 60fps.
