The method I'm using is the one that doesn't require to watch the tape.
So we have to crouch before entering the basement??? I was crouching near the doll, maybe that's why it didn't work. I'm going to try this now, let me start the game once again
Is this even possible? How do you get the axe?
I know your frustration. I watched the tape about 5 times not knowing what to do, haha. I know it sucks but it feels so good getting that coin that it's worth it.
Worth to note: when I get the 4th giggle backturning in front of the mirror, the 4th note is added to the notebook instantly. I go up the attic and point to the blue and white wires, but my controller doesn't vibrate and the screen doesn't distort.. The 4th note is there anyway, the blue and white murder
Now that I got this dirty coin I'm tempted to buy the full game.

EASY AND FAST WAY:
If you want the quickest and easiest way to get the dirty coin than this guide here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=821597177 is perfect! Or just look up a speedrun of it where they do it in around a bit more than 6mins. Nothing else need to be done beforehand in the save (no need to see ghost in the VHS or to put the key in the door for the bad ending without opening it or any other special step/trick that people are going to mention/have mentioned). Can even be done from a fresh new save.
BUT as mentioned for the phone trick to work (where you pick up the phone after having triggered the 4th murder SFX) you have to NOT pick up any handgun bullets & also speedrunner Carci on Youtube specified you have to avoid taking the handgun too apparently even.
(Although I don't get why you would want to pick that up anyway even if it wasn't true if you can't get any more bullet for it since it only has one in it anyways. Also it's super easy to dodge the monster by just quick turning and bashing through the door. Then going up the stairs and then going back down and rushing to the key and then quick turning and GTFO after. After that it's gone and won't come back ever in that playthrough...so, yeah lol)
I tested another run exactly the same way but without picking up the phone and it didn't work until I did and also tested another run where I picked up ONE handgun bullet and then the phone trick didn't work and couldn't trigger the fifth laugh.

SLOWER WAY BECAUSE YOU DONE ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UP AND PICKED UP A HANDGUN BULLET AND/OR THE HANDGUN EVEN IF WE TOLD YOU SPECIFICALLY NOT TO:
I don't see much reason to do it that way even if you don't wanna restart the game because it appears to be RNG/luck based and probably will take you way longer. I guess just to see for yourself and/or to do a "100% items" run I guess or something lmao.
Essentially if you picked up a handgun bullet and/or the handgun what you have to do it exactly all the same steps BUT for the fifth laugh to still trigger after the step where you picked up the phone, you HAVE to play the VHS until you see ANY one of the ghosts apparition possible WITHIN THE SAME PLAYTHROUGH. Also be aware that IF and when she does appear, she appears for like barely half a second. So essentially you pretty much have to happen be looking at the right spot at the moment she appears. It's literally a "blink and you'll miss it kind of thing" lol.
There is 7 apparitions location possible overall if I remember correctly:
1. To the left once you are near the door on the porch, she'll be standing in the forest/grass on the other side of the ramp looking at you while the door is on your right.
2. She appears upside down on the ceiling behind you just on the other side of the entry into the first corridor you enter with the NPCs.
3. Right outside the window on the left next to the dining table in the corner where there is a corner of the window you can clearly see through.
4. In the ceiling in one of the holes JUST above the door frame before you get out of the dining room.
5. In the stairs going up to the cellar as soon as you get out of the dining room on your right.
6. Standing looking at you in the small "room" under the stairs as you pass in front of the door frame. Right in the corner a bit behind the door frame as you pass.
7. Standing right in your line of sight as you get on the ladder in the hidden area they find as your view steers up on it's own just before you start going down.
Once you've seen her at least just ONE time during the VHS sequence, then you finish it and after that you go in the basement and you'll be able to trigger the fifth laugh.

And I know because while showing to my gf the teaser and it's different endings, we were at the point of doing the true ending and while at it I told myself "eh, why not show her the dirty coin/murder puzzle! It's pretty sweet and I've done it more than once or twice back when it came out, shouldn't be too complicated right?" and then proceeded to do all the puzzle stuff WHILE PICKING UP the handgun and all the handgun bullets just for the fun of it. And then as I got to the part where I had to trigger the fifth laugh it wouldn't work at all.
I looked it up and kept finding guides with all sorts of weird unnecessary steps and people coming in with comments adding weird steps or giving all sorts of thing that they did or didn't do and/or things they saw/looked at and have happen or not before making it work.
So I DID do the phone trick! (aka just picking up the damn phone after you triggered the 4th murder SFX) but to no avail. The fifth laugh wouldn't trigger (of course because I picked up the gun stuff but I didn't knew it made things more complicated by stopping the phone trick from working). So I tried a few things out and also replaying the VHS tape until the end and just running downstairs and crouching while facing back to the doll on the shelf and not looking at her and only looking at the doll and all that mumbo jumbo hahaha. Nothing worked. Since she had to go to sleep because she had work the day after I just showed her someone that did it on Youtube so she could see how the rest happens and also all the possible ghost sightings. But I never closed my game and current playthrough neither and went back to it to figure this out on my own because I was sure I could trigger it within that same playthrough. AND IT IS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I DID IT EVEN THOUGH I PICKED UP EVERYTHING THERE IS TO PICK UP INCLUDING ALL THE BULLETS AND THE GUN!!!
And it only triggered like supposed to by crouching and looking at her (from any angle and it's almost instantaneous, the line of sight really ain't finicky AT ALL), after I did another VHS run where since now I knew where the ghost had a chance to spawn and went ghost hunting haha. And on the first try of doing the VHS and looking for the ghost I spotted her in the spot #2 I mentioned AND in spot #7! As soon as the tape finished I went down in the basement and looked at the doll while crouched and it worked instantly.
I'd be very surprised it was because I saw two of them and not just one. I think it also explains why a lot of people only got it triggered right after they said they've seen the ghost once for the first time in the VHS. Probably a lot of them picked up the gun to rely on it to kill the molded in the basement (like I was painfully doing 4 years ago before I learned you can dodge all that crap easily hahaha).
And of course since there is two ways to get it to trigger depending on specific circumstances then of course it created mixed signals as ♥♥♥♥ that...really weirdly enough...no one bothered to 100% figure out I guess? Either that or the info is incredibly hard to find hahaha. Which is why imma spread it everywhere I find threads being confused the ♥♥♥♥ out about it haha.
Also btw, it's was right after that I found about the whole phone trick and the handgun bullets + handgun thing. So I got curious and that's when I tested out those theories. And saw that the phone tricked worked and also stopped working once you pickup bullets. Which gives proof that even if you saw the ghost within the same save file it doesn't change ♥♥♥♥ (also i still was using the same saves from back then where I DID see the ghost too anyway) and it has to be WITHIN THE SAME PLAYTHROUGH and ONLY necessary if you've picked up ANY bullets and/or the handgun. Otherwise it's 100% not needed.

Actually bought earlier this year due to RE8 hype, but I still haven't played.
Don't know why it's taking me so long to play the full game, since I really liked the demo.
Oh damn hahaha! It's such a great game too! But I get it dude. I have an insane backlog like many people that caontains so many classics or amazing relatively recent to even recent games I got for cheap that I still didn't take the time to play. Its just...life ya know haha. I hope you'll enjoy it a lot too!
