The police just don't mention it. I thought the same thing so went through avoiding any sort of evidence, but since you're still required to touch the body to get the keys, plus they still got a call about the lights going on and off whether you grab the flashlight or not because of the other guy they focus on those details instead. From my understanding there is just the one ending, presented in different ways.
