You can escape. Run.

Oh. I didn't try that.

So what was that bit at the ending all about, some kind of sequel hook?

So from what I've played there's two possible endings to the game, both with the same outcome - the killer ambushes the player just as he's about to escape, walks up to him very slowly and bashes him over the head with a pipe again while the player just stands there and stares at him.

So if that's the case and that's how it's always supposed to end, why does it load back to the last checkpoint every time this happens for me?

1st, there is no sequel to the game.
2nd, there is no multiple endings.
3rd, he is the killer.
he commited all murders.

I have tried not to pick up any items so that the end scene(comic interrogation) could be changed, as the police blames us for picking up and touching 'evidences'.
If I don't turn on any light switches, would the neighbours still be complaining to the police?

The developers didn't think of that lol
Wow, what lackluster ending(s) to such a promising game. You literally have to stand still for over 30 seconds before the guy hits you in the head. Alternatively, the police are prepared to convict you without trial on purely circumstantial evidence.

That is very true.
