[SOLVED]TSW triggers system "blue (brown) screen" after Windows 1903
This is a very plain W10/64 system (specs below). Last June it updated to W10/1903 and afterward TSW crashed to a blue screen shortly after starting. I rolled back to W10/1809 and the problem went away. At that time I looked for an update to my nVidia drivers, there was none at that time.

So today I tried again to go to W10/1903. I also updated my nVidia drivers and upgraded to TSW2020 hoping for the best. Same problem. Specifically, TSW starts full screen then it switches to the upper left corner (this is a 4K display) but completely borderless (as though it wants a 1080p and doesn't know it's on 4K). It plays some of the intro trailer in that bogus window, starting with the swirling blocks, some other stuff, sound and all, then boom. system crash including the "chainsaw massacre" buzzing as Windows collects its crash dump. Once it scorched my disk and had to be DSKCHK repaired lightly on reboot. Nothing like this has ever happened before in 3 years.

Are there any command line switches to force it into Windowed mode? I have a feeling this is related to the presence of a 4K/60Hz main monitor plus a second 1080HD/30Hz monitor off to the side. For sure it goes away if I roll back to W10/1809. I have never experienced any such problems with other games or simulators. No overclocking. Straight SSD on C and rotating disk on D.

Besides command line switches is there anything else I can do to help diagnose it? If I can't get it going in the near future I'll be forced to roll back to 1809 again. I really like TSW, but I'd hate to freeze my OS in time just so I can play it. There must be a solution or there would be a crowd with pitchforks and torches in front of Dovetail's gates.

Hey there, I fixed mine by hooking up a pc monitor, which enabled me to get in and see the game settings, This in turn permitted me to adjust the display to windowed mode, and hooked it back to my 32"TV i was using (causing my blue Screen) we have simular rigg setups running though my i7 is 3.7gig and my graphics card is the Geforce 1050Ti Latest Windows 10 release. NO OVERCLOCKING. Fingers Crossed for you..

I never had this issue as you also say on ANY other simulator or game. even after going through Steam help pages, and trying its advise such as startup settings in the games launch with autoconfig and -w 1768 to set width of Resolution compatible with my TV. Nothing worked till i hooked up that PC Monitor, and seleccted window mode

OK thanks! This morning I disconnected the PC HD monitor and switched the 56" to HD 1090p mode. No luck on that either. It never madce it p[[ast the original black full screen TSW with the spinning ball. As soon as it tried to switch "blue screen". Reminder that it ran perfectly with the full 4K system full screen until the W10/1903 update. Based on your story I'll try booting with just the HD PC monitor. I'll report back. Thanks.

No luck. I can't get it past the black TSW window with the spinning ball even with a simple 1080 HD PC monitor connected and nothing else.. For reference it is a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION with module ddkmd.sys. Common with zillions of ideas online, which I will ignore. This is 100% correlated with Windows 10 1902 and affects ONLY TSW/TSW2020. I can't get it to run at all to out it into windowed mode, which I THINK will allow me to play again. PLEASE? COMMAND LINE OPTION OR CONFIG FILE EDIT?

SOLVED! And thank you to Dovetail Tech Support for sticking with me. I did yet another Google search, this time for [fixed]Windows 10 SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION ddkmd.sys[/fixed] and the second hit mentioned the Duet Display[www.duetdisplay.com]. I had installed it a year ago and then forgot about it. Well apparently Windows 10 1903 + Duet causes a bug playing many full-screen games, TSW 2020 being one (along with American Truck Simulator).

I removed Duet Display, rebooted, and now all is weil.
