Departure times?
I am playing TSW GWE... well, no, let me rephrase that: I am TRYING to play TSW GWE but I am constantly forced to quit playing and ask questions here because Dovetail was so kind to NOT add a sufficient manual to this game. Anyway... when I am doing a service I see the time that I need to arrive at the next station. However, I don't see a time at which I have to leave.

When I arrive at a station I unlock the doors, passengers get out and in and when the time is done I close the door and immediately am told at what time I should arrive at the next station. But... how do I know it is time to leave already?

Mate, don't get me wrong but research is part of the simulations. They always give you basics and you go on with that. May it be Kerbal Space Program or any car racing simulator etc. I believe that's part of the experience and a good design.

That doesn't mean I don't get annoyed sometimes, but well...

For your specific question, when the doors are closed and the signals allowing, you should proceed, that's it. If you are too early to some station, signals will slow you down. If they don't, passengers will be happy that they arrived early. :)

Well, maybe you are right. I have the idea my flightsims are all doing a far better job than this but maybe that's because I've been flightsimming for decades already and I know more than I think I do. Personally I bought this game to drive a train, not to do research. But ok, I will stop moaning about the lack of information: I think I made that clear enough by now... ;) Thanks for your help again!

If the doors are closed and the signals correct - you can leave the station.

Thanks. I do think this is what I was looking for!

Wow, somebody finally posted a link rather than saying "check the blog". Lol Thanks, I was looking for this.

Btw, I checked any real life videos from Great Western main line especially Reading - Paddington part of course, and trains (166) stay in stations about 30 seconds - 1 minute. In the simulator is this time longer imo, or on the high range, always to 1 minute in every station. So, this is not very realistic because its difficult to keep timetable...

The most realistic way would be to introduce multiplayer and have a guard to close the doors (actually not sure if they still have guards on that line) ;), IRL the doors usually close 30 seconds prior to booked departure time for a right time departure

Once you have everyone onboard and locked the doors and buzzed the conductor twice assuming you have a green light then you are good to go i dont hang about for stragglers :)

Buzzed the conductor...? I do remember seeing some buzzer buttons or something like that: are those for this?

Prototypically wrong. Technically correct. There is nothing in TSW to stop you departing early. But, one of the biggest complaints in TS2017 was not being in full control of the door functionality. In TSW, we are, which means with great power comes great responsibility :D

You can try this in TSW:
  • Thunder at full speed to a station stop and use Full Service braking to come to a stop (this is to try and get to the station earlier than required, no other reason)
  • Open the doors ASAP and perform the Load instruction.
  • Once the Yellow circle is complete, close the doors.
  • If you have finished early, you SHOULD be told to wait until X time before departing.
  • You can proceed I'm sure, but the objective tells you to wait until your intended departure time.

Thus, if you do not see a wait requirement before departing, the departure time has already been exceeded and you need to head to the next station.

Ah, ok, good to know. I haven't been in that situation yet: apparently I am always running late. ;)

It only tells you to wait for a specific departure time if you arrive early. If the game tells you that you need to stop at a station at 17:05 then the departure time is 17:06, it is always 1 minute. So if you arrive at 17:04:30 and finish loading at 17:05:30 the game will tell you to wait until 17:06. If you arrive exactly 17:05 you will finish loading at exactly 17:06 and the game will not tell you to wait.

Exactly correct.
Some stations you can't get there on time and are 30 seconds to a minute late departing but the timetable seems to allow you to recover at other stations.
I've been a bit late to a couple of stations then told to wait for x time before departing.
I would have to say that this is quite realistic as the train would not be allowed to leave early!

So, no notification telling you to wait then you're good to go :)

Ok, well, the timetable which you can download is nice as a reference, so you can see at which stations you have to stop (something the list with services fails to tell you) but it is useless when it comes to the times, so it seems.

- I am doing service 2G28 with the 166 and the timetable shows a time of 18:48 at Acton Main Line.

- The game tells me to be at Acton Main Line at 18:49.

- After arriving on time and locking the doors the game tells me to wait until 18:50...?

- Next the timetable says I have to be at Ealing Broadway at 18:52.

- The game tells me to be at Ealing Broadway at 18:53... so I am told to leave 2 minutes late and have to arrive in less time...?

- I arrive at 18:52, which is ok according to the timetable.

- After closing the doors I have to wait until 18:54, while I have to be at Hanwell at 18:56 according to the timetable.

- The game tells me to be at Hanwell at 18:56: this is the first time the objectice is the same as the timetable shows.

- I arrive at 18:55

It's a bit of a mixed bag. ;)

BTW The mission summary shows nothing in the Due column, only in the Time column...?

The user is in control of the doors.
