Why am I stopping automatically all the time? (Dovetail, get your act together!!!)
I play TSW GWE and during my current service the train stops all time in the oddest places. I also something hear a 'ping' sound. I enabled and disabled AWS (afaik) but maybe this has to do with DSD or DRA...? What am I doing wrong?

EDIT
Ok, I think this is it:

"On enabling the DSD system, you will hear an alert periodically that you will need to acknowledge using the Q key. If you do not react quickly enough, the train will commence an emergency brake application."

So everytime I hear a ping I will need to press Q, right?

EDIT 2
Disabling AWS with Control-Enter stopped the ping and the need for Q. (Just posted this here for other newbies... ;) )

Matt Peddlesden confirmed on his livestream the TPWS is glicthed on the Class 66 and is triggering emergency stops when it shouldn't be. We should leave AWS/TPWS fuse disabled on the Class 66 until they've patched it...

Very, very happy to see newcomers, if we don't get them then we haven't got much of a future for our hobby.

The point was that it has been disabled to help newcomers who don't understand these systems out of the box. In this case it seems to have backfired because the user switched them back on and became confused, but i'd wager that in most cases it would be helpful.

Well, I gave it another try with AWS on. The ping is indeed just a notification of a green sign. I did get an alarm every now and then, which I suppose is the DSD, and pressing Q disabled the alarm. However, with still some 6.5 miles to go to Reading (the service was 5N52 Maidenhead to Reading) the train suddenly stopped without a warning. Disabling the entire AWS system did nothing, there was no way I could speed up again. I didn't see a red light anywhere.

So after that I restarted the service, now without AWS, and finished it without any problems.

So either I am doing something really stupid (quite possible) or this is indeed a glitch. I will try this once more with AWS: the red light I should be looking at, is that the one above the yellow button that disables the alarm? Left of the 'sunflower'?

Well, isn't it the idea to use the system LOL ? What else is it there for! ;)

I am using the 166 and still my train stops just like that.

Q disable the AWS. I've forgotten the key for DSD but this can be disabled by pressing the footplate thingy at the drivers feet. I get confused easily so this is subject to confirmation :-)

I wouldn't worry if things don't work in the cab, many things don't - like wipers and horns.

Of course, and i'm not saying it is right either way, just to give an idea as to why the decision was made to do it.

If you had seen the amount of 'why has my train stopped?' threads over the last decade, you would probably understand why! :D

I did that 5N52 service again with AWS on again and now things went perfectly fine. So I suppose I did something wrong somewhere... I will keep it enabled (or better said, I will enable it from now on because there is no way to have it enabled by default) and if things go 'wrong' again, I will try to figure out what caused it.

I had a look at the controls and Q is for the alerter. So I restarted the service once more (never to tired to test something ;) ) and noticed that when you press Q the yellow button goes down but also the DSD 'foot pedal': so Q takes care of ALL alerters. Also, control-W is linked to Warning devices, so pressing ctrl-W enables (or disables) both AWS and DSD. Apparently these two functions are coupled by default.

BTW I know how to manually enable DSD (in the 166 it is a button in the top left) but I can't see how to enable AWS in the train itself. Ctrl-enter works but it's nice if it can be done in the 3D cockpit (which I also like to do in my flight sims).

Anyway, what I also wanted to say: you had a point, Axe, when you said I asked a lot without first checking things out. Sorry for being a bit too lazy in that regard. I searched for AWS on Wikipedia and it is ALL there. The service I just finished without any problems with AWS and DSD on was done AFTER I read that Wikipedia article so... lesson learned. I can see you are trying to help people out here, which is always something I appreciate (and also do myself) in the flightsim community, so, again, sorry for a bit of a bad start here.

EDIT
For those that are new to all this, here are a few must reads to get you started:

TPWS is for sure glitched on the Class 66.

I have noticed this as well. I hear no AWS buzzer nor DSD alert, yet suddenly full braking pressure is applied and I'm brought to a halt. My only guess is a sound issue where the DSD fails to sound (much like how the horns seem to be very sporadic in whether they work or not...)
