Control Issues
I've just bought this game & are struggling with all the buttons & controls.
Only bought it because it was on special.
I'm an old fart with fat fumbling fingers.
My setup is more suited to car & truck driving.
Is there a way to use my Saitek side panel for train controls.
Would make things a bit easier.

I'm not sure about controllers like that. It may be possible with third party software. If so, then hopefully someone who knows can post and help you with that. I know for sure that TSW supports an Xbox controller, if you happen to have one handy and are struggling with the keyboard controls.

I'll ask around the family, some of the grand children may have a redundant one.
Will it connect to a pc?

Been doing some research on this and a Xbox 360 appears to be the current alternative.
I've only seen them in pictures and don't know anything about them.
Is there any particular type I should get.
I saw one with an attached keyboard, how would that go.

TSW is heavily focussed on consoles and supports only an Xbox-compatible gamepad as alternative to keyboard + mouse (driving a train with a gamepad is as weird as playing Super Mario with a steering wheel). Other train simulators are supporting the Raildriver cab controller, which is the defacto standard in train simulators since around 15 years (like a yoke / flightstick for a flight simulator).

Maybe you could (if the Saitek panel supports that with its software) bind buttons from the panel to virtual keystrokes so you could at least use the buttons.

Use the keyboard and mouse, XBOX controller for first person mode.

I looked at the Raildriver Controller.
Shame it wont work on this sim.

All of the PC X-Box (or Logitech variants) controllers work fine in TSW as does the mouse. Decide if you want a wired or wireless connection (with the latter you may need to buy a MS WiFi dongle). Most of the gauges, switches, levers, etc are activated using the mouse and you then need a few essential keyboard keys for some in-game commands (as you would even if using a X-Box controller).

I dug out an old wireless keyboard with trackball I had stashed away & gave that a try.
I find that more usable & I could get used to it in time.
But I think I'll get a Xbox controller anyway.
They are not very expensive.
