DTG abandons TSW - no promised multiplayer & editor
For me as a original buyer of TSW with a lot of DLC's this is unbelievable.

3 years after release:
  • no promised editor
  • no promised multiplayer
  • plenty of bugs unfixed…

I have no words for what is happening...

Matt Peddlesden, Senior Producer on TSW, back in 2016 when TSW was first announced answered a burning question "Will there be multiplayer" in the "The Futre of Train Simulation" video. (That is now unlisted on youtube, but you can find it here: https://youtu.be/5J4U-yv9fgM?t=408 )

In it, Matt says "There will absolutely be multiplayer in Train Sim World. We've been really excited to deliver multiplayer in Train Simulator for sometime and with the way we have been able to build Train Sim World, we can do that."

BUT, on Aug 7, 2019 DTG_Daniel says here on the Steam forums "Hi guys, As far as I am aware multiplayer was never promised. It was noted as something we wan to possibly add in the future but its never been promised and a date has never been confirmed."

This is the quote from the TSW2 site.
"Where is Multiplayer?
We want to bring Multiplayer to Train Sim World, and we now have a design that we think will give a great social experience. It’s been crucial to design based on the experience of the mode, bringing the right roles and communication to our online experience. Multiplayer is not part of Train Sim World 2, but it’s on our future roadmap."

This leads me to believe that DTG still has little to no idea what they are doing regarding multiplayer. I know its not something for everybody. But don't be so flipy floppy with your words and statements regarding the status of features.

I was fooled into buying TSW back when it first came out, I was part of the beta they did, under the pretense that multiplayer would be added. That was the selling point for me.

This back and forth that DTG is doing on this subject makes me question what other things are they failing to deliver. Makes me question weather or not I want to spend my money and any more of their products. How many times will they promise something only to make contradictory statements or to back down?

I want to like TSW, I really do. But DTG's approach, straight up cash grabbing, and failure to keep promises make me not trust them as a developer. And their lackluster products make it even harder to want to keep moving forward with them.

I think DTG will eventually remaster their Preserved Content and put it up in the Steam Store anew for new players to purchase.
There is some decent base content that would otherwise be wasted when the player wants to build a library.

One new piece of DLC for Germany, UK and USA every three months would otherwise take too long to get this ‘asset base’.

But then again, without a route editor, we don’t really need this asset base, do we?

In the Q&A, if I understood it correctly, the preserved collection will be purchasable in either TSW1 or TSW2, and purchasing it in either will give you the item in both (if you have both). The preserved collection is going to be left untouched.
If they do remaster these assets, it will be a new TSW2 only item that we will have to buy again. Possibly they will package it with a new short route so that it isn't so blatantly obvious.
But like you say, since we won't be getting an editor it is their asset collection, not ours.

Whilst I agree with you, I do have a question. What's so unbelievable about it? They've been doing this with all of their games for years now. DT are a pack of money grabbers.

As a cheated user of fully paid Early Access abandoned game tester
aka TrainSimWorld TS2Prototype:

Köln to Aachen = 73km so it will give up to 20 minutes of ride.
LU = LIRR?, we`ll get a train every 10 minutes with all green aspects + 10 pax.
CSX = A few scenarios probably

Plus paid update to UE4.22 instead of UE4.16, which other devs gives as an update to support 4K and dynamic skies in term of graphics quality + few % of more FPS. 4K will lag.

We`ll get re-tweaked menu for cosmetic feeling of changes, a tool to paint locos an QD.

The issue is that we`ll loose support of the TSW and content we paid for and which is yet buggy and feels of Early Acces.
We were actually EA testers and moaners of abandoned EA.
No multiplayer, no dispatch, no annoucements in trains, no display boards on platforms.

On positive side we`ll get ICE3 with a 73km route and LU Bakerloo with unknown amount of traffic, signalling and safety systems quality etc. for a single price apparently.

As a new version, if it won`t deliver correct passengers amounts, boarding/deboarding in masses (Tube style), announcements en-route etc, all of what WoS3 delivered quite correctly plus busy traffic I`m refunding and will get some scotch to forgot amount of money invested.

I really would buy again from devs who delivers so much updates to their old games, upgrading to newer version of Unity/UE with some bugfixes as they develop new games and discover new methods of programming instead of feeding greedy folks, who promises multiplayer in years now then tell us that it wasn't planned directly......
What's worse, if TSW2 is just a copy & paste of TSW1/2020 with just bugfixes and slightly corrected SimuGraph engine I will have an abandonware if I don`t pay for "newer version".

They killed my hype with additional train for LIRR which I was hoping for to add traffic to LIRR schedules mode, I got a train and a REORGANISED cosmetic change, nothing added to traffic as it was advertised as "additional trains seen on scheduled mode".
I got my train, but LIRR is still looking worse in term of traffic than after electrical failure, rail replacement by bus and Covid issues.

Artwork, graphics team and sales are brilliant at DTG.
Managers, CEO and programmers sucks.

Summary?
As for excuse to crappy programming while it was a new project with promised features, instead of selling us same bugs to all old player base and cheating on us with stupid arcadey-points in game progress kiddy console style, we should get this all as an update or game replacement instead of pseudo-new development to cover beginner cheap programmers expenses on bug fixes even if it implies development from scratch which I just don't believe. As an excuse we even didn't get anything while the new players got free routes while the game swapped it`s name to TSW2020.

Why I don`t trust DTG?
I bought the base game while it was CSX then bought most of DLC`s when new players got the TSW2020 for the same price of the base game back then, with more routes and they got Amtrak New York which old players did not received while we went a lot through non-playable state of the game a lot of times with downgrading graphics updates, GWR with disappearing tracks, no sounds, hang-ups, crashes, glitches making game unplayable with frequent crash report of TS2Prototype. They should upgrade routes the same way to guys who was there from beginning like for newcommers as a little sorry.
I don't mind paying for the DLC`s but when we got invested in hundreds and cannot get what new guys got for the same base game price trying to make us happy by "upgrading" core to TSW2020 for "free" it's a bit shy. It's the same game. Now we have to pay for an upgrade with unknown quality of routes (in terms of programming and traffic). We have to pay for what we should get from the beginning.

The only defence of abandoning current TSW for a minor unreal engine update seems to be the included 2 routes. If these routes are really worth the 24.99 then release them separate and update the game that we bought in good faith for free. Everyone's happy, and those that want those 'bargain' short DLC can buy them, their choice.

Same here mate. I thought that buying German DLC’s will be a good idea, but now I see, that abandoning support for old DLC’s and paying for UE update every couple years is just wasting my money…

As a result of getting shortchanged by DTG for TSW1 support I will retaliate by going the grey market for TSW2. Why the hell should I pay full price for what's essentially an engine update?
eagle7907 Jun 16, 2020 @ 5:41pm
I'm not buying... I simply don't trust anything they say. Their whole "no abandonware" statement is a hilarity in itself when they abandoned one of their first DLCs for TSW. The one I most supported and wanted to see succeed. Sad.

It isn't the first and I'm sure it won't be the last time they abandon a game.

Train Sim World (Owned) - ABANDONED WITH BUGS
Fishing Sim World (Owned) - ABANDONED WITH BUGS
Euro Fishing (Owned) - ABANDONED WITH BUGS
Flight Sim World (Not Owned) - ABANDONED WITH BUGS (I have friends with the game)

Train Sim 2020 (Owned) is the only long running game, but that has its bugs and issues too

Next DTG Title I am eager to buy ? NONE

I totally understand that it is a business and they have to make money, but to abandon their
games in such a mess, really ? They are too busy fantasising about their next cash cow.

And all those abandoned games are developed by DTG theirself, TS20xx was "taken over" (was RailWorks first which originates in EA-Games Rail Simulator, developed by Kuju and is based on the abandoned MSTS 2).
The other game which worked better was FS X Steam Edition, but was developed by MS and not DTG (publisher).

I was not aware or EA's involvement in train sim, I have only had that game since 2017 and
there is only DTG listed on the steam page. But my list just shows that every game they do
make gets abandoned. I have FSXSE too, but I will not be adding anymore DTG games to my
library. The new TSW and fishing game could have been updates to what already exist.
Metallos Jun 17, 2020 @ 11:25am
EA Games was the publisher, they didn't made a trainsim.
Kuju has developed the Microsoft Train Simulator and were working on MSTS 2 while it was abandoned (the first time) so they made an own train simulator (Rail Simulator) of it, which was published by EA Games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_Simulator
