Let's Talk Connecting Multiple Peripherals
So I'd be really interested in knowing how to connect the Saitek/Logitech Heavy Equipment Side Panel (designed for farm sim) as seen here:
https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/farm/farm-simulator-side-panel.945-000031.html

I tried already setting it up. By choosing a function and pressing a button. However the controller is not being recognized. There is no profiler for the device. Do I need something like xpadder or joy2key? What have been your experiences with using devices like this and/or hotas controllers?

Pretty sure this game doesn’t really support any devices other than gamepads. Not even raildriver. So yes, xpadder or joy2key will be needed.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but this is what I understand to be true.

You're right, the game supports only Xbox-compatible gamepads as "alternative" (it's not really an alternative except the game would be ported from console) to keyboard + mouse.

And TSW is the only realworld-based and bigger train simulator which doesn't support Raildriver, the standard input device for train sims (like steering wheel + peadls for race sims or flightstick, HOTAS or yoke + throttle levers for flight sims) if you don't want to use keyopard + mouse.

Okay so no wonder people are saying this isn't a true sim. Controller only!? Definitely a console game. So sad, this could have been such a great sim too! Wonder why they chose that route?

Quantity over quality. That is pretty much how Dovetail operates. This game lacks a lot, but that doesn't stop them from selling a new DLC every month with varying levels of quality, and usually with recycled content. As long as they continue making money doing that, everything else seems to be secondary to them. Different controllers, VR, multiplayer (and the functionality to make it interesting), not to mention the long-since promised EDITOR...

If you're interested in true simulation, Run8 sounds like it would be more up your alley. TSW is undoubtedly more of a casual game about driving trains, which only occasionally touches on the more complex elements like setting up multi-unit trains (although the functionality here is hit and miss as well). The biggest thing TSW has going for it over other train games is that the graphics look better, on average, than everything else. This is also hit and miss though. The service mode is also a nice selling point, as this is something that no other current sim really has.

I suppose I play this game because I've been looking for an MSTS replacement for YEARS. This is the most modern train game available right now which attempts to simulate real train driving, and it does an adequate enough job of it to scratch the train itch I've had. Certainly not easy to avert my eyes from the countless issues in and around this game though...

MSTS replacement? OpenRails.

About Run8: Yes, it's a very good simulator (after playing that for a while and then play TSW then you think you're playing a console arcade game) but it's not interesting for most people here beacuse of US freight only / no passenger service.
