Please use "km/h" instead of "KMH" or "KPH"
The game uses several variations of indicate kilometres per hour. Now I know SI units may be confusing for those who use thte imperial system, but "km/h" is the only correct way to indicate speeds in kilometres per hour.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Units

A capitalized "K" is used for Kelvin, a measurement of temperature.
A capitalized "M" is used for Mega, indiciting a 1,000,000 of units.
A capitalized "H" is used for Henry, a measurement of inductance.

So, KMH would be a unit to indicate Kelvin multiplied by Megahenry. Not sure what that is, but it's not speed.

A capitalized "P" is used for Peta, indicating 10^15 units.

So, KPH would be a Kelvin multiplied by a Petahenry. Not sure what it is, but it's certainly more than a KMH.

To indicate speed, most European countries use kilometers per hour.

"k" is used for kilo, indicating 1,000 of a unit.
"m" is used for metre, the unit we want to use to indicate distance.

so, to indicate a kilometre, or 1000 metre, we use "km"

As far as I know, "h" isn't part of the SI units, probably because time is officiale indicating in seconds. But, most of us European counries use "h" to indicate hours.

"kmh" would mean we are multiplying kilometers by hours, but we want to divide them, so the correct unit to use would be "km/h". So could please stop using "KMH", "KPH" or anything other than "km/h" to indicite speeds?

I know I risk being a nitpick, but I guess I'm just a very strange person who is somewhat allergic for incorrect display of our beloved SI units. :)

Agreed.

Agreed

Hilarious explanation but still legit matter:steamhappy:
Too bad they probably will never change it... : /

Just use imperial units -- then the problem is solved ... :-) <---- Humor

But the OP is correct - should use the correct labeling.

Aren't the devs British, and didn't the UK stop using imperial years ago? They probably were just sloppy with the detail.

This post is 100% correct, yes it is a nitpick but I doubt it is at the top of their priority list of things to fix :)

One might think that is not that hard to fix either;p

Considering DTG are trying to make things realistic, recreating every route and locomotive in fullest detail, including the speed dials displaying "km/h", it's pretty unbelievable the technical guys are getting something as simple as this wrong.

I guess the interface wasn't created by a tech guy. Probably done by a creative artist who has no clue. :P

Megahenry.. now there's my next nickname

Also I agree one hundred percent.. or is it one thousand per mille

Nope. The UK still uses the imperial system. For example Road and rail speed limits are still expressed in Miles Per Hour with a couple of exceptions such as the T&W Metro and HS1 which use imported metric signalling systems.

Don't expect too much from people who are still measuring lenghts with body parts... ;-)

Also "mph" is wrong, it has to be mi/h.
Same with "rpm", it's "1/min" (in SI "1/60s", not to be confused with "1/60 s") or "min^-1", example an engine runs at 6000/min.

The usage of min or h is correct because they are derived from SI (1 min = 60 s or 1 h = 3600 s), in "strict SI" you use seconds.

On many roads there are imperial and metric units used, especially maximum vehicle heights (trucks from Europe crashed often into bridges because most truckers don't know their vehicle height in medieval units) and due to membership to EU SI units have to be (also) used. But meanwhile, since this thread was started, GB has left EU (Brexit) so they can go back to their medieval units if they want to.

Of course KMH is correct! I mean have you seen the terminal velocity you get when you bunch up 1000 of Mega compressed Henry's and throw them out of an airplane?
You certainly do get to see some speed :D
