Train doesn’t throttle
I observed in almost all the locomotives- When I apply break heavily and then later throttle up to 8 units and throttle down the train engine stops literally throttle doesn’t work and I doesn’t even get the sound of increasing power .Is there any way to avoid this problem.

Never have experienced this so far- maybe I am misunderstand your problem.

What do you mean “the train engine stops”? Do the RPMs drop to “0”? Are you throttle directly to notch 8 while you have the brakes applied or are you letting the brake’s fully release before stepping up notch by notch to notch 8? THe UK and Germany locomotives do not have notches, does this apply to them as well. How about the electric units, do you have the same problem?

Just trying to clarify since your synopsis doesn’t match many other’s experiences and we want to try and help.

Edited for auto-correct spelling misinterpretations.....

On the class 47 you must allow the amps to settle before moving the power lever to OFF. To do otherwise will result in what you describe. This is normal behaviour for this loco type. In general avoid abusing the machines. They are big units with a lot of internal inertia and there's a lot going on under the hood..

I never abused any machine so far :angrypoop: :angrypoop: :angrypoop:

In Rapid Transit, I've found that if you put it into emergency brake mode, the throttle stops working until you move it back and fourth past 0 a couple of times. Of course you shouldn't normally do this, passengers don't like to get coffee spilled all over their pants.

It'a all good Leadcatcher and thanks for not "biting" at my awful attempt at a bit of tongue in cheek humour :)

No intention to bite- I thought it was quite proper for you to defend the Queen’s English. My son attended university in the UK for both his BA and Masters só was the only reason I understood your comment and do enjoy the banter between us.

IDK if it's true of real life trains, but in the game when you are stopped on engine brake higher than "initial reduction" the pressure in the system doesn't allow the throttle to be used. Perhaps this is some sort of a safety feature to not allow the throttle to be put up with the brakes on full charge thus you'd either wear out the brakes or the engine prematurely? (like trying to drive a car with the handbrake on)

Simple solution that works every time is once you come to a stop, release the brake into "initial reduction" mode, then it will allow you to throttle up to move off, and release the brake fully.

Did you ever find out what caused the problem?

The replies above seem to be correct; many of the trains seem to behave in the following way: if you apply brakes while still having the throttle on, the throttle is essentially disconnected automatically, and requires you to reset it somehow. It can be pretty confusing as there isn't much of an indication that something has happened, and also the game's UI sometimes shows step 0 for both "off" and a "minimum" setting, which in my case already triggers the problem.

The solution (on the Main Spessart route, at least) seems to be to move the throttle fully to "off" (not the first notch the registers as 0, that's "minimum"), and to throttle up again.
