TSW is dead, welcome TS2019 !
Now we know that this game was thought for consoles and not for us, players on PC. The number of players today on Steam is very low. It also confirms because DTG continues to develop DLC for Train Simulator. And for TS we have third addons, editor, long ways etc.

I thus presume that DTG prepares a Train Simulator 2019 ?

Strangely enough when I was in employment I slagged off the management as well. Hardly ground breaking stuff particularly when we all know that poor decision making is behind a lot of Dovetail's ills.

It is that I blame DTG. why for not putting more developers on TSW, to correct bugs, improve the existing contents and add extensions of lines, add new scenarios, create the editor (that they abandoned) etc. It shows, that for them, TSW on PC is not a priority. And even on console this summer, some DLC (heavy haul) will not be available.
They didn't abandon the editor. They are using it to create buggy and incomplete short routes every other month!!! They just have no intention of letting you have access to it!

Just exactly how is TS dead? It's got more players then ever. Tons of new content coming out almsot on a weekly basis. The quality of these DLC just keeps on getting better & better. And many players are still very much enjoying playing it, for all sorts of reasons. i.e has tons of variety, semi-decent physics (unlike TSW), better sound than TSW, a easy to use editor for creating new content (scenarios & routes), and a very strong TS community that are very supportive of each other. TS2018 is a long way from dying off. Many of its long standing players aren't really concerned about the now slightly dated graphics, because it's enjoyable to play & provides a lot of pleasure - and does so at a most reaonable cost. TSW has an extremely long way to catch-up!
Don't forget to mention, the multitudes of great 3rd party payware content, that has minimal bugs and great support from those 3rd party devs. TS20xx is long ways from dead. And to be honest, if you are a rivet counter, then stick with TSW. If you want a real good train sim, that won't kill even the best computers, but offers great physics, top notch sounds, amazing MP sessions, Run8. I don't even think I managed 20 hours with TSW and it's buggy crap. Just yesterday alone, I put in a 20 hour shift on Run8. The railyards are chock full, and trains are running hard from Seligman, AZ all the way to Barstow, Los Angeles and up to Bakersfield and back. 30 mile DTG route with stunning graphics? Or 5 routes that flawlessly connect together, giving you continous playability without having to stop an activity on one map, and starting part 2 on a second map. EVERYTHING people are demanding and not getting from DTG, Run8V2 has it.

I've bought Notch8 (base game) a week ago and yes, you can spend many hours in it. For solo player the "External Dispatcher" is a good help because I can pause the game (helpful if driving an own train) while looking at the other trains.

The keybindings are totally different (TS20xx and TSW are almost like the old MSTS) but not really a problem and many items (for example the MFDs) aren't interactive (clickable), you must use the keyboard. Too bad it doesn't support analog axis (for example throttle levers like Saitek Throttle Quadrant or HOTAS throttles), too, but train enthusiasts have the Raildriver which is supported out of the box (normally a must-need for every train sim which came out in the last 12 years).

For those who complain about the scenery in Notch8: The scenery in the Mojawe Desert suits very well... ;-)

It comes down to two things. Are you a rivet counter, with no care towards actual physics? Then by all means enjoy the arcadish TSW. Or do you want a train to feel like a train? Run 8. Lets laugh at the comparison. TSW, short routes that don't even include a whole subdivision. Those short routes don't even attach to each other, ie no continuity. Eventually when they develop more routes along a sub, you will drive 1/4 of the route, run out of scenery, have to load a second route, and continue part 2 from there. TSW loco sounds, top notch, FAILURE! GE loco with no classic GE chug. All 3 locos use the same horn. TSW bare bones routes of short lengths tax even the best computers. IF editors come out, just think what scenarios with heavy traffic will do. That's a lot of rivets and shadows to render, and it will affect perfomance. Now let's look at the inferior Run8, the laughable comparison of Run8 VS TSW. I will use the SW USA, from Run 8 here. Available routes are the western portion of the Seligman Sub in AZ, the Needles Sub from Needles to Barstow, Cajon Pass, Tehachapi pass, and the San Bernardino Sub. No need to end a scenario when you reach the end of a modeled route. Why, because all the routes, upon installation, all seamlessly connect to one another. You can drive across all those maps and all those miles without needing to switch a route. And exploration of those routes show a great deal of work has already been completed and will become active with each new route release. Run8 loco sounds. Let's just say the ES44, has big GE chug in ALL notches. And the horns for the various locos are all pretty darn accurate to their real counterparts. Let's talk traffic. I have an open scenario across all the SW Routes that I've been running for a week. There are almost 80 active AI trains running across all those routes. All the yards are full, the industries are full, There are over 6000 railcars sitting across these routes. Not even one CTD with Run8. The loco models are not all that bad. The rolling stock models are not that bad. The in game shadows are just as good as in TSW, but without the huge negative FPS impact that TSW suffers. Physics? No comparison. Run8 owns DTG in EVERY aspect of physics, sounds, reliability, and a big one, CUSTOMER SERVICE! You are right, the comparison is laughable. So laughable that I won't even be completing my TS20xx collection. DTG has lost my money. Oh and I'm forgetting probably the biggest and most laughable comparison. MULTIPLAYER! This is where Run8 truly shines. Enjoy the good laugh, and the console game on your pc. Heck maybe some of the Fallout modders can mod some scantillly clad big busted xxx girls for TSW mods!
No this is everything they did themselves to put them in a hole. They thought they can get away with what they did in Train Simulator on this platform. Problem is that actual gamers came onto the scene and said this is complete bull. Thus brought the game down real quick in terms of the review score. It could of been way bigger but DTG shot themselves in the foot. Bringing it onto console will only reinforce this and not really do what they want.
Charging 30$ for these DLC is whats going to kill them, its not worth it and laughable at best.

... Run8 ...

Run8 sounds awesome. If only it weren't limited to US railroads. And it'd be nice if it were available on Steam.

I'd buy it if it were on Steam. But I don't think the devs have any intention to sell it here. I'm only moderately interested in modern American freight, so I'll pass.

Depends on the server. The two I frequent have anywhere from 4 on up. There are always people stopping in and doing yard work, delivering locals, working the hump yards. One of the sites keeps a running monthly talley of railcars worked, industies served and the numbers are quite well. If you even believe that DTG MP in TSW is going to be able to do anything close to what R8 does, you are a laughable fool. Tell you what, IF and when DTG delivers MP, you let us know how well that TSW MP works on short routes with few industries, and not enough yards, and no working hump yards or anything like that. Let's see how TSW holds up when you get yards, and sidings and stations populated with a large amount of trains. Let me know how many CTD's you suffer. Because we all know, TSW MP is gonna be a laughable joke. I bet the Yellowstone super volcanoe erupts long before DTG starts giving two ♥♥♥♥♥ and producing a quality product.

They won't put it on Steam. They don't need Steam. Their installers work flawlessly, and are so easy, a caveman, and yes, even a DTG fanboi could get it to work.
