Future Expansion to the NEC map? (and other things)
Hello All,

I doubt that I am the only one to be slightly suprised by the seemingly tiny size of the North East Corridor map, and although this may have been an answered question elsewhere- I guess I'm going to try and bring attention to it.

Although I do not have much insight into the production process and time consumed making this map, it does seem to lack a bit of material to be titled something like the NEC, being that it only includes what I would typically think of as one of the major stations along the line (for example the Train Sim map included Penn Station, Grand Central, and New Haven Station) that being Pennsylvania station. It's almost as if there's no real destination as in running an M8 from GCT to New Haven, which in it's self is a complete line.

Personally I do love the level of detail that this map has brought that truly propells it above the level of emmersiveness and quality in the Train Simulator New Haven Line and Jersey Coast maps, and it was nice to see that someone has finally recognized the significant presence of freight in the area, but as a New Yorker I feel the map really lacks something (Grand Central maaaayyybe?). Now, I will make it clear that I dont know the limits of the game all that well and how far a map expansion might stress it, but I would love to see what could truly be considered a complete NEC sometime in the future with enough space for something like an Acela to have a considerable stretch of track to make a decent scenario.

Of course I'd love to see some discussion here, as I'm sure others may have the same thoughts as I, and of course objections are welcome. But I think that larger maps could make for a good discussion. (Maybe even letting the community help- we have enough time to play the CSX scenarios so I'm sure there's time to help with the maps and such)

I agree with your statement. Personnaly, I would like to see some industrial sidings added. A few refinerys, container yards, automotive off-loading yards. And my pet peeve. Add the AC4400CW.

Woud be nice to see one of the features present in another train simulator.

Routes released that merge and connect together seamlessly, so you end up with mega routes spanning 100s of miles after buying and merging each route/section.

Imagine Boston, New Haven, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC into one route/session, some day in the future.

I agree with you in every way. When I imagine the NEC its that span of rail, and I would like to have all of it at some point.

In addition it could be nice to have some of the Jersey lines and the LIRR, as they play important roles in the system here.

Just generally it feels like theres a lot missing to the network they created for the map.

More NEC connections with Amtrak and commuter railroads.

Once the editor is released, a 3rd party team, that already has a lot of documentation prepared and even a very complete google earth file, will develop the entire NEC

Do you know who's on the team? I haven't seen anything anywhere.

Damn man, thats super in depth, I may even want to see the New Haven Lines older EMUs. Not that I want to pretend to smell their brake pads again- but for nostalgia purposes. Also- of course we're gonna need GCT in the map... It's a lot nicer than the current shape of Penn.

Also, on another note- since you thought into the future over the M8s operating on the Shoreline East (replacing the somewhat crusty old GEs), we could even consider the new expansions to the LIRR such as the east side expansion being built underneath GCT.

That is true, forgot about the east side project for the LIRR to Grand Central Station. Though mostly it would be content that would be either current day or something already done in the previous train simulator. There is alot more content available if DTG wanted to go to a previous era of the routes such as the early 2000s. To my knowledge, DTG didn't acquire the licences outside of MTA with Metro North, NJ Transit, and Amtrak on the NEC as the passenger rail operators. I know back in the previous train simulator, DTG had trouble acquiring the license from Septa around the time the Northeast Corridor New York to Philadelphia and NJ Transit Arrow III DLCs came out. Whether it was denited to DTG or the price was too steep for DTG, either way, it did not fall through since the intent of the septa license was to make a potential Septa Silverliner DLC. DTG might have problems with acquiring the MBCR and Septa licenses. Shoreline East and VRE, i'm not sure if it'll be difficult to acquire those licenses for release content given they are alot smaller than the other commuter rail agencies on the NEC. As for MARC, not sure given their parent company is the Maryland MTA. If Septa hasn't changed, I wouldn't be surprised that DTG won't make content for Septa. Also from a dispute regarding the MBCR, they have been known to charge a hefty price for acquiring the license and using it for games as with what happened with the Last of Us on PS3 & PS4. https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2013/06/25/mbta-map-last-of-us-transit-map/

Oh well, if it comes to, we could always have the system end at New London or so. Wouldn't give too much of a run for the Acela north of New Haven- but would provide people interested in Shoreline (or even amtrak local) a good bit of fun. I could see them reasonably doing well with an expansion simply including more NJT, LIRR, and dragging the system down to DC as well. A move like that wouldn't be too much of a challenge for DTG as other than the LIRR they already have rights to the imagery. Additionally I would not expect getting the LIRR to be too much of a challenge as they already have Metro North which already operates alongside the LIRR under the greater MTA.

Worst case when making such an expansion would be the possible challenge of aquiring rights to certain railstock on the various lines you mentioned previously- although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt too much for a few models being left out (as there would be a decent amount of content already). The challenge could surely be from the railstock to getting rights for the NH locomotives that I'm sure would have to be featured if the Shoreline East was to be developed.

That is true as well, the only agencies that difficult to acquire the license will be the MBCR (Boston's Commuter Rail) for charging a hefty licesne price and Septa if they haven't changed their previous stance to DTG. The only ones that I am uncertain would be MARC(Maryland's commuter Rail), Shoreline East (New Haven to New London), and Virginia Express Railway as to my knowledge, never made content for those operators. Given DTG's previous dlc, I wouldn't be surprised that DTG has the licencing rights to NH since they have released NH locomotive DLC and the Springfield route with NH content. The agencies that DTG will have no problem is the LIRR, MNRR, NJ Transit, and Amtrak. I also have a feeling that Shoreline East and the Virginia Express Railway won't be a problem for DTG to get the rights to those operators given how small they in comparison to their other counterparts. Do note that all that I have mentioned is primarily speculation with the execption of a few details.

Well shoreline shouldn't be an issue, its operated by Amtrak and the CT DOT, both of whom are already in agreements with DTG, or indirectly involved in.

Do you know who's on the team? I haven't seen anything anywhere.

Did darkage reply to your question?
