Request - Cab Sway and Bounce
DTG, please don't forget to add cab sway/bounce to the in cab view like there is in TS2017. A slider in the options to increase/decrease the default amount would be good too.

I don't think you guys are understanding what it is we want. We would like the camera to have a little bit of sway or movement relative to the cab so it doesn't look like our head is mounted to a pole. This has nothing to do with the way the lead loco moves relative to the trailing ones. We just want forces to be somewhat visible. For example, when your're just running a couple locos with no load, slamming the independent brake to 100% will cause you to loose speed at a considerable rate, and it seems unrealistic when your head doesn't move AT ALL in reaction to this. No, we don't want to slam our face into the dash or make it feel like we're a bobblehead, we just want a small amount of movement as a sort of visual feedback for the forces being applied to the driver (Us).

^^^^ Exactly.

The cab should tilt with the superelevation while the "head" stays level, while the "head" should wobble a little with the bumps and sways of track unevenness.
Acceleration and deceleration plays little role in slow US freights, but will be more prominent in high powered EMU's.
But any 6 DOF "head movement" will requires more parallel physics calculations. However since the potential of 4 core CPU's is still not used 100%, there is room for more accurate motion physics.

This is unrealistic, though. Your vision wouldn't sway and wooble during the ride. Unless you're very drunk :)

But the cab does already tilt upon superelevation... What do you mean ?

Your "head" tilts with the cab, while it should stay level. The cab should tilt in your view.
Human perception is such, it expects the horizon to stay level.
Even been on a ship in high seas and you know what I mean.

Oh no, I ride trains every weekday for an hour, and my head stays with the train and does not stay level with the ground at all... I stay in the seat WITH the train, and I do not lean away in any direction away from the superelevation, but rather ride WITH every undulation of it...

... ever ride a train? seems not?...

I guess I wouldn't say no to some minor "head-bobbing", but that will further eat the precious fps... Maybe make it optional? Whoever likes it, then please, go ahead and turn it on in the options etc..

Cab/train does bounce around https://youtu.be/2BRTJfRExvA

Your head is not physically attached to the train therefore your body will counteract those sudden movements, all part of your balance, so the sim should replicate this, as seen in the video, with simulated movement on screen. I hope it can be implemented like in TS2017 at least.

It is different being a passenger. A driver has full forwards view and the visual reference.

I think the effect of superelevation and cab sway is portrayed better if the cab moves around you.
We'll have to wait and see what DTG will bring us.

I've been wondering about this, as it was promised to be in the full release during a video of the beta. I'd agree that your head moves with the superelevation, it does not stay level with the horizon unless you're trying to do that, but it would sway a little during the twist (cant gradient) through the transition until uniform radius and cant (SE) are reached, same in reverse for running back out to straight. Your body/head might not perfectly match the level of cant/SE as mixed use lines tend to use cant deficiency, which means the cant isn't as steep as it theoretically ought to be to balance centripetal acceleration, it varies but applied cant is usually about 2/3 the theoretical amount - passenger trains will travel faster than freights, and modern passenger trains tilt to give passengers the full amount of cant while the bogies run at deficiency, while freights run slower and match the cant as applied at deficiency.

From an ex PW (MOW) technician POV...

This is just camera shaking...lol
Or even someone who's holding camera unsteady,.... lol

And rest assured, I did have a full view out of the front window of the cab car... Not much "head" movement lol

Yes your right, thats what I'm thinking, the train/cab should move not your 'head'. The camera shake is excessive because I'm guessing the operator is struggling to hold it steady. I would imagine on lesser maintained track the locomotive will bounce around? I've been on the footplate of steam locomotives and had to hold on for dear life in some cases!

In this video https://youtu.be/ozJcFq29iYg
at 12.43 the camera man mentions "you need sea legs here" as the loco sways around so it is not so smooth! lol, Great video though and great sounds....

Yea, but same thing if I'm trying to walk (to reach bathroom) on a Bombarider dobuble decker car (GO Transit), I have to hold on to something when I make that walk lol, or I end up on somebody else's lap lol... But visually (*and especially when sitting down), there is nothing notable other than that sheer torque-in-the-seat..
