Train going slower and slower
Hi there,

right now I'm driving some mission and I have to go up a hill to "Mance" and my train is just getting slower and slower. I've manager to completely stop two times where my train couldn't move anymore.

I'm sitting at 2,3 km/h with 1180 ampere load on P7. Am I doing it wrong? This hill is going 1.5% upwards.

When I first entered the mountain I was still going 40 km/h and now it slowed all the way down to that speed.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Fori

Do you have enough locomotives on? Are all the brakes released? Are alle the trailing locos activated?

Well. I just jumped in and drove. It was a prebuilt train.
Apply a load on the lead and than switch off your warning device breaker. Head to the trail unit and confirm its loading.

I just went to the sceond loco and the the engine wasn't even on. Is there a tutorial on how to setup the second loco so it actualyl supports the leading one? In which position does the powerswitch have to be?
I just made a post about how to set-up a consist. Check it out might help you out

Manual describes how to start a cold loco and how to plug it into the system.

First to every one, When your told to go Via Location, Don't stop if you have a Green signal just go right by The location. Next the problem you are having I had also. The first job of the engineer is to make sure your train is setup right and ready to go, So the problem may be intentional. But if not For anyone not wanting to know what is not right don't read on... O.K. with that said the problem is that the first engine is not setup correctly. Exit your seat and go to the electrical panel. Where it says setup SW, you will see it's set to Single Unit or Middle Unit, Switch this to Lead Unit Short Hood Lead. That's it.. Now turn on your gauge lights Head lights hit your horn and your ready. Apply 1 notch of throttle. you will see the amps come up. Go to the second Engine using the walkway and enter the seat, Now you will see the second Engine is powering amps to the traction motors. go back to the first engine and injoy you run. Remember don't stop at these locatrions unless it says to stop or you have a red signal. There is also a trick to the end. Wait for a yellow light the procced until the mission is completed.

In Powering American Pt 2, I also managed to stop dead on the uphill grade, this is also with the AC which has 4,400 horsepower !

The trick is to try to maintain your AMPS in the green at all times to sustain momentum for the climb. In that scenario, there are 2 locos and on that failed attempt I did check both were powered up (they were).

When you are hauling 100 full carriages, not even 2 AC4400 is enough to get you going on a 1.8% incline if you stop

Hi there,

thanks for all your answers.

I really appreciated your help.

Some further clarifications on what I am playing:

I hit trains from the menu, following AC4400CW, first track Q015, some Container mission.

I checked the trains for the settings as shown in the manual.

The "Headlight Control" was pointing "Single or Middle Unit" on the first loco. I set that one to "Short Hood Leading".

I then put power on the first Loco and went to the second one and it was showing some AMPs when in the drivers seat.

Now after loading that game my train died at the same spot then before, as the second loco wasn't powering anymore and I wasn't able to make her do so. My guess would be that the game has some issues here with saving and loading? Because I literally changed nothing inbetween.

Thanks for referring me to the manual, was quite interesting.

I still have no clue what is happening to me in this case...:(

Similar problem on Q015 Intermodal with AC4400CW. Just after Hyndman there is a reduction to 25mph at the start of an upgrade; applied the brakes and then released them but the train just went slower and slower until it stopped. Ran the mission again, but this time, left the brakes off and relied upon natural inertia to slow the train and, would you believe it, no problem. Looks to me like there is a problem with the brake not releasing fully (at least as far as the software is concerned). Had a similar problem with a GP38 where you get held at as top signal approx 2 miles from the Yard; train would not move when signal cleared. Overcame that by reversing down the upgrade and then taking a run towrads the sugnal. My conclusion is use the dynamic brake rather than the air brake.

I found the brakes not releasing properly in several instances. Pay attention to the guages. If you use too much brakes or go to full service it can take up to 5 minutes to release them. We are old that in one of the scenarios.

Sometimes if you load a save game, the brakes are stuck and will not fill the brake pipe back. You can assume that the save is borked.

All the scenarios have some lessons in them. They are using them to teach us how to drive these monsters.
Press 1 in Engineer's IFD (Air Brake) adjust the psi into 100 so you can make your train go faster in uphill at mance :steamhappy: and pull the throttle to notch 8 or throttle 8
