Multiplayer mod/dlc compatibility
I just want to ask Dovetail; as for playing multiplayer, say as if I had a FGW skin for my train, but someone else doesn't have it, is there going to be some sort of "swap" mechanic like Flight Sim where it replaces the skin (or even train/wagons etc) to one that you have installed? It would mean everyone can drive what train they want with whomever, but could end up with weird problems (like a narrow gauge steam train on the maglev in China or something doing 400kph) however would be really good for compatibility between players.

There is also the alternative - caching the other player's train onto your PC, so you see what they're driving but the cache then deletes when leaving the server, or even just a button in TSW to erase. This would take more resources to accomplish but could be nicer for people playing multiplayer.

No idea if this has been thought of, but could be something you look into? I do like the second option more, but it could end up being problematic in terms of storage and also Internet.

As for addons, if you don't own them you could kinda be blocked trying to board the train. It would Suck, but would ensure people will still buy DLC, instead of sharing with friends (swapping trains or something idk)

Anything I've missed?

I don't think we have any official news about multiplayer in Train Sim World other than that it will come and that we need to wait for news. I imagine that the issue you describe has been, is being, or will be discussed internally, but DTG tends to remain quiet about almost everything until shortly before release.
It's still ok to ask questions. Questions can spark inspiration.

You will notice on the Store Page it says "Single Player" at the moment. Multiplayer won't be available until later this year.............................................maybe.

As much as you, I, and probably many others would love this, I can't help but think that it could be a security issue. Users could potentially use the caching system to transmit malicious files to other people, sort of like what happened/is happening in source engine games with their custom VTF spray system. That's assuming it is a multiplayer game and not just a COOP between friends. If its the latter, than anything I said really doesn't apply.

Makes sense from a security standpoint, but in terms of store-bought dlc, could be cached from steam itself rather than the player, though for things which haven't been released on steam, could drop to the initial idea above?

I made this thread as a kinda question about what plans are for multiplayer, given that it is in the pipeline, but I don't want something like FSX where it replaces a Boeing 747 with a Cessna or (in terms of trains) replacing a Class 91 with a CSX SD40-2 on an ECML route, for example.

so sad to still see that there is no multiplayer over 3 years later
