If you get a "could not switch resolution" error, here is how to fix it
I just did some trouble shooting with a player over email, concerning this error. This thread is just here so others can find the solution as well.

The Problem
Upon starting the game, you get some variant of the following error message:
Switching to resolution 1920x0 failed, trying lower one All resolution switches have failed Screen: could not switch resolution (1920x1080 fs=1 hz=0)

The Cause
This is a problem caused by the last Windows 10 update. It seems to be able to affect pretty much any game, and there seems to be no pattern in which players see it.

The Solution
The following two steps have helped many players, and also worked in our case:

  1. Change the actual resolution of your Windows desktop (not in-game, but in the Windows settings) to a lower one. Something like 1280x720. Then start the game, using that lower resolution as well. Multiple people have reported that doing so, and afterwards changing back the resolution to the recommended setting, fixed the problem.
  2. If that did not work, find the "12 orbits.exe" file, right-click, select "Properties", then the "Compatibility" tab, and check "disable fullscreen optimizations".
You can find your 12 orbits.exe file by right-clicking on 12 orbits in your steam library, selecting "properties", selecting the tab "local files", and clicking "browse local files".
