What's the best version of this game?
Should I buy this, play on Day of the Tentacle Remastered, play the NES version, or some other version?

The original NES version is "cut" to meet Nintendo's requirements.
Otherwise the versions differ only optically. Just take the appealing.

I had the NES version when I was a kid and it's worth playing if you can find it despite the changes that were made, they don't take away from the enjoyment. It looked great for its time and it had a good soundtrack.

NES version looks better and has some of the best 8bit music ever.

There is also unofficial, fan-made remake - Maniac Mansion Deluxe.

Day of the Tentacle is the current one you should play. It has the updated SCUMM scripting system.

is there a mod to install the better version on steam?

It's already on sale on STEAM. Day of the Tentacle includes both that game and Maniac Mansion.

Best version is the C64 one in my opinion. I still have my C64 and this game on 5.25"
NES version, it's really a no-brainer.

Well that was due to limited pixels available back then. The best version was the C64 version :)
