I am in a very, very good mood right now because not only are the mutants back on the gridiron but I just won the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Mayhem Bowl. When I saw this game on Steam I almost jumped out of my chair, I had no idea they were doing this.

Seriously, if you had a Sega Genesis back in the day just buy this game, just buy it now. Kill the ref, watch your running back get killed by a landmine, sack the quarterback into a vat of acid, tackle that lineman into a giant sawblade, win the Mayhem Bowl. And, on top of all that, the football is actually really good. It's a reboot of Mutant League Football, it's the game you've wanted for over twenty years. You need it, what more can I say? Please support this game.

I am not a big football fan, but this is my new favorite sports game! I'm addicted.

The world needs a Mutant Hockey League!

Played on the Sega Genesis way back in the day. Lots of fun then, lots of fun now! A Mutant Hockey League would be awesome!

Definitely reminds me of NFL Blitz, but with the brutality of death. Players have HP, and if it drops to 0 they die and are out of the game. Plays can be affected if you too many of one type. Lose too many running backs, you cant do run plays anymore. Lose all your QBs, gotta forfeit. Havent had to forfeit a game yet, but i've made my opponents forfeit a couple times, so losing players is manageable.
You're able to do 'Dirty Tricks', kinda like powerups. You get 4 per-half, and range from things like Berserk, where you're highly unstoppable..Shotgun, where the running *literally* has a shotgun that you can shoot/kill defenders for a short time.. or even bribe the ref, where the ref can call a penalty for no real reason on the other team.
Field has environment hazards, like mines..spikes..underground worms, makes the gameplay unique for each field type.
All in all very, very fun game. Highly support someone trying to tackle the Football genre on PC, these guys did a great job.
TL;DR NFL Blitz gameplay. Bloodbowl style of art. Crazy fun for an arcade football experience. Highly recommend.

God I miss the 90's...My bro and I played Mutant League Football often on our Genesis. We watched the MLF cartoon...Bones Jackson was the ♥♥♥♥...As much as we loved the game, "passing" royally sucked, the only con of that game. Fast forward to 2018, slight name change, and 1000x improved passing! Oh, but that's not all!

Now it plays like Blitz® and has the original charm of MLF, with field hazards and dirty plays. The graphics aren't mind-blowing but I like the art style and the fields are well designed. The commentary is top notch and I find myself laughing while listening to it.

MFL is my dream game since the original came out. Every console generation I hoped someone would make another MLF. It's finally here and I'm glad I jumped at the chance to help fund it on kickstarter.

The only con is that I wish it was full 11-on-11. It's fun and I know it's meant to be fast pace and arcadey but I think it would only benefit from a full on-field roster, as it would create even more mayhem.

If you liked the original Mutant League Football or any of the NFL Blitz® games, there is no question that you will enjoy Mutant Football League. Well worth the price and the devs are great and make frequent updates.

Gather round children, it's time for a story.

Once upon a time, way back in the 16-bit era, there once was Genesis title, a gem of a game called Mutant League Football. Orcs, skeletons, and aliens would duke it out on the gridiron in 7v7 American Football, with even more violence and mayhem. Blood and guts rendered in glorious 16-bit sprites. Screen size was limited, and the Genesis didn't have an efficient sprite zooming mechanism like the SNES's SFX chip, so the top third or so of the screen would be three separate views of your receivers as they run their routes. The game was fun as hell, with dirty plays, slaughtering your opponents wholesale, and classic football strategy, but was clearly ahead of its time, as the genesis's three-button gamepads and standard TV resolution were very limiting.

Now some 20 years later, the Mutant League returns, in 3D-rendered bone-crushing glory.

Let's be real for a second though. This game is like 70-80% Madden-style football. And that's not a bad thing at all, really. The controls may not be quite as refined, but Madden has had 20+ years to refine their scheme (although EA still charges full price for little more than roster updates or P2W online systems every year nowadays). But if you're used to playing Defensive Back in Madden, you're still contesting passes with Y or Triangle. You may not have the refinement of "ball's in the air, L1 to turn square to the ball, gauge whether to just swat it away with R1, or go for the pick with Triangle, crap I can't get there in time gotta try to time the hit to jar the ball loose instead, oh crap got there too early and now it's DPI," but if you have a starred player in your secondary, you can have a good chance of picking off the ball outright when you think you should.

If you're an old school gamer who remembers the awesomeness of the original Genesis cartridge, you will probably love this game.

If you're just looking for an American football game, get this game. As long as EA has their exclusivity clause with the NFL, there will never be another licensed NFL game outside of Madden. I hesitate to say "this is the next best thing" because I believe that MFL is way more fun than Madden, and probably the best American football game on Steam right now.

I played this game when it was first released on Steam. I miss the old days of NFL Blitz and football that is just plain fun! This scratched the itch for a season or so, but then fell flat.

Returning months and months later, imagine my surprise to see all the work the devs have put into this:
- New team packs for a few bucks
- Franchise mode is actually fun, with reasonable trade-offs
- Updated rosters(!!) I didn't pay a dime and all my rosters have updated players AND updated smack-talk descriptions... amazing (man I hate EA so much)

Consider me re-hooked.

I figured I would try the demo, you know, nostalgia and all.
Final play of the game, tied at 7 the Chronic have the ball on their 40 yard line and only have 1 running back left. It's a troll. Call the final dirty play I have, Beast Mode. The Hatriots blitz but it just didn't matter. My big slow fat troll annihilated their already-on-the-brink-of-forfeit defense and has an open field to score and win the game. But this fat troll is a troll and a bit vindictive at that, so instead of crossing the goal line, turns around to kill the rest of their defense, THEN scores. Chronic take one over the Hatriots.

Purchased right after.

This game is what I was hoping bloodbowl would be. If you played the Sega classic this is a reboot of that game. It retains the spirit and mechanics of the old game with new teams and hazzards. The football itself used Madden style controls. For those of you new to the game this is football with landmine, bribing/murdering the ref and laying waste to the other oponents players with late hits and homicides. The announcer is a bit repetitive like most sports games but the diaog is very adult and very funny. And as far as football on PC there is slim pickings so this is a welcomed addition to my game library
