How to tackle?

Hi im new to the game and while i understand most stuff i dont understand how my controlled player cant tackle/take someone down but the AI characters can do it easily. I press either X or Square and either one they just take a hit and keep moving. Am i doing something wrong? It doesn't currently seem fair that i have to throw four or five guys when they can just use one who grabs me lifts me up and throws me, I would like to be able to do the same grab but i dont know what im doing wrong.

The Mutant Football League has types of tackles:

• Wrap/Conservative tackle: high chance to succeed, but low chance to force turn over - A/cross button
  
• Dive tackle: low chance to succeed, but high chance to force turn over - X/square button

Please be advised that even Wrap/Conservative tackle isn't 100%, it also depends on your timing, tackling player's ability to tackle and takled player's ability to break throw
