No, players doesn't age and there are no Draft.
I was hoping for something that would be longer, like a franchise mode found in other games. So I'm kinda disappointed, but I'll still probably buy it one day in the future. I was going to buy it right away if you could play a ton of seasons.
Thanks for putting it on GOG by the way! It's where I'll buy it when I do. If it's doable, please think about adding more playable seasons in the future for updates, lots of people like me love the franchise/dynasty/GM parts of the sports games.
First, I think the most important thing to point out is that in other games with franchise/dynasty modes is how long the typical player actually plays. In Madden, I typically became disinterested after playing 4 to 6 seasons. The biggest issue with Madden is that the game gets unbalanced because of foolish AI that can't seem to keep their teams competitive. the NHL series was far better, however. There are limits in those games, to my recollection, anyways. I've read about limits, but never played long enough to reach them before I started another franchise.
There are plenty of teams to choose from, and I think it's fine the way the designers approached it, particularly with the player names. I would have liked to make my own, yes, but essentially, despite naming, you develop the team how you want regardless. The names are creative and fun, so it's really not that big of a deal.
I am enjoying it, and I'm definately getting my monies worth.
Creating a totally dynamic world where the AI manages each team is possible, but is it really worth the effort? That's hard to say. Getting too detailed has it's own problems, especially in the long term. I would have prefered a more detailed and complex system, but I am still having plenty of fun with it.
It's interesting to start the dynasty with pathetic players, and you can develop them however you want. You can start again, even with the same team, and try a totally different route. The system does allow you to do this. I'm in my third season, and it's been pretty balanced. When my 5th season is over, I intend to try a new approach.
I'm sort of glad it doesn't go on forever to be honest. You have a clear goal and a reasonable time limit to succeed. It's not really a bad thing. In fact, it may just get too repetitive otherwise.
There's plenty of play value here. There's new stuff to learn and try, and more replayability. It's not the "game mode to end all game modes", but is worth checking out. Designing your own play books is interesting, too.
