Recieving and intercepting

So I'm new to the game and it always seems like my recievers drop the easiest passes. Even if they are unguarded and facing the ball they still drop it. Also, my defenders can never intercept the ball. I've had 4 guys around a reciever and they all failed to stop him from getting the ball. What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried taking control of your receiver after the pass is thrown, then jumping for the ball? My catch success rate seems to be higher when I do that.
