Economic Dominance - Lowering Consumption Prices
I just thought I would post this for those who are struggling with this journal entry.
Firstly, I think it is a "bad" entry to have to achieve on the way to economic dominance because you want prices lower than your competitors but not so low that you own industries can't stay profitable. The easiest way to achieve the entry is counter-intuitive to the principle of being an exporting economic powerhouse.....
You should NOT go Free Trade until you have made this entry as Free Trade will make it more difficult.
Just spam the steel mills, coal mines, and iron mines. Several other things you can do if needed (and at least a couple will probably be required temporarily just long enough to trigger the even). Protect domestic supply for those goods. Subsidize the buildings so they "overproduce". Embargo any large exporters of these goods from your market. Pause construction (if you are using steel frame construction it helps alot. if you are still using iron frame construction it helps drop the price of iron).
If you see that one of them is close but not quite, then you can resume construction, stop subsidizing, build some more of those producers and then repeat the process.

you can actually get it pretty easily late game, if you have a lot of industry and mines that need iron and steel and coal running (example using methods such as steam donkey, or steel carts instead of wooden carts for railways) just turn these advanced production methods off and see the price of iron, coal and steel go down rapidly, even as low as -50%

it's just tedious as it needs a lot of clicking

same with rising the price of engines, but the opposite, just switch to production methds that require a lot of engines beyond what you actually produce and enjoy that +50% price

none of that is easy to get naturally and efficently playing the game, as are objectives for egalitarian victory. only hegemony seems to be "balanced" in current version of the game

Yes, and even Hegemony only seems to be balanced for a small handful of countries.
I always start a game with a victory type, but I mostly ignore the actual missions now because they don't seem to be teaching actual intelligent play: I still haven't gotten economic dominance because once it became clear that you were just *supposed* to cheese it by punching your economy in the face for a fortnight I stopped trying. I had though there was some cool thing I was going to learn about how to really make my economy hum, but nope, just metagaming.

The other thing about the Economic Dominance is that the GDP has to be IN YOUR OWN economy, not just your market, so you have to annex a lot. The hegemony is easy because you can just puppet everything. Half of Qing can be liberated to small countries of 15M - 35M people that can be puppeted 5 years later. (I should say "protectorated", but I reduced most of them to dominions so I could attack through their borders.

I just thought of the "pause construction" with the autonomous pool active now....
if there is plenty of money in the investment pool, pausing construction may not help because it just gives your construction points to the private builders. But, you could still just delete a bunch of construction sectors since they rebuild in only a few weeks. Of course, try all of the others tricks first in this scenario.

lol you can protectorate qing too and if they have a sucessfull military revolt it makes it super easy to do as all of their territories implode into warlord states

in fact, hegemony should be called "conquer china" objective
