The most likely explanation is that you were simply lucky that the particular driver version at microsoft's repository was the "correct" one. Or that it downgraded some stuff which the game and win11 patch stumble at.
thank you for the reply, you are correct, i do not know how this works. I had only assumed that the driver selected by windows update would be flagged by microsoft as 'compatible' or 'functional' in some way, and i suppose it worked out well for me. I am able to play the game now without stuttering and complete freezes
