Ridiculous naval invasion defense

Playing as Japan and defending my shores against Great Britain.

I have two armies 60k troops each.
Against me there are 3 armies with total number of soldiers: 60k

They are launching 3 naval invasions at the same time.

The whole area of Japan has 120k troops at my disposal vs 60k of theirs.

And yet, war after war, they land. I never knew why, until I finally caught it:

There are battles where enemy is fielding tens of thousands of soldiers against my... few hundreds.

Why, Paradox? Why do I have to lose the naval invasions over and over again despite having twice the numbers as a defender?

Please tell me this is a bug.
Or is it becuase I have two armies and they are launching 3 invasions?
I will try splitting my armies and report if that helps

It's likely because they have more invasions than you do armies but you can never tell with this game, I know that used to be a problem.

Lol whenever something like this happens to me (not infrequently), I switch sides, surrender on their behalf, and switch back. Take that, game.

I had the same problem several times. If all 120k of your troops are already participating in battles then 1k army invasion will instantly occupy a blob of your land and there is not much you can do about this (except destroy all railroads to reduce infrastructure -> reduce max battle size so less troops will participate in defence or savescum). They said in dev diaries that they will fix this and other warfare "gameplay" in next big patch, probably couple of monthes from now.

The trade-off to this is you can build 1 massive navy and put it on interception in your only sea node and never have to worry about wasting money to mobilize armies because AI loves to assign 10 generals to a single navy so your massive 1 stack navy with 1 general will always fight other navies with ridiculous number advantage and as long as you keep your navy there they can't force army combat on you before they destroy your navy stack.
