Have you switched off the alcohol production?

May be it is because i loaded the game before todays hotfix and kept playing it.....?

What's your SOL, do the people have any money, what's your percentage of peasants, are there any food items which are significantly cheaper?

I don't think the lower strata buy groceries very much. They tend torward grain or fish.

Victoria 3 magic system of good is a step back from the stockpile system. From what I know the food that the pops buy are weighted. There has to be a certain amount of "supply" before the pops buy them. They would buy the default "Grain" if no supply....

You are right the grain and fish are weighted as 1.0, while meat and fruit are 0.5 and groceries is 0.75.

The upper class should still buy some "groceries" as luxury food, though. This might be an issue of the save no longer working after the update. Or the other foodstuffs which count as "luxury" are significantly cheaper.

Ok guys, i started a new game, same issue, food industry doesnt start. I just would like to understand why they dont work (yet). I am pretty sure it isnt a bug, but wanna know why the demand isnt growing. It works when i subsidize them, thats why i am sure it cant be a bug. I hope one of those screenshots might be useful.

This must be a bug, or rather, a balancing issue with the new patch.

The grocieries are likely too expensive, given that fruits and meat are rather cheap. Those even count as both staple and luxury goods, so the populace doesn't see any reason to buy something new. Try subsidizing the food factories, and lower the (local)price on grain, since it is the main input good. Improving MAPI might help as well, have you already researched "stock exchange"?

Thanks! Yes, stock exchange was my 2nd after education. I will try how things work out when lowering mapi of grain in the state where im gonna build the food factory and see if that might work. Or ill just wait until the investment fond starts building a food factory, they should "know" when a certain state has a good market access for grain and when its worth investing i suppose....switching to another country does show food factories, so it really seems to be a mapi thing and also that my middle/upper class is pretty low compared to western nations ofc.

Some state just won't hire at all like if you build it in Hormuz. From what I noticed the best state to build at least for the first factory is in the capital Irak, where Tehran is located. Even then the demand is very low. Only 500 of the 5,000 max employment are working in the factory and the buy and sell order is 45 sell to 5 buys. Because of the high grain prices the factory is actually losing money by making grocery. When the factory starts making money that is when I noticed the supply entering the market and grocery orders start coming in. You can check local prices by selecting a state and then local prices. Building farms throughout the country also help the local prices in the capital because they don't have to export it to other states. I did notice a big difference once my grain balance is positive.

Also Persia has has almost no fish, so their only choice is grain. There is a lot of demand for grain. I would focus on getting the grain first. Also traditionalism sucks in this regard. Traditionalism has -15% market access price. Even with the stock exchange your MAPI would still be -5%. States with river helps with this of which Persia has none....
