but Gold fields have an event - and a random discovery chance, that makes the state that has them attractive for workers, along with building some "Gold Fields" which use infrastructure, so ensure that you actually railway it up.
They usually last for a year or two, then the next event pops up, saying the state is no longer attractive to migrations, and that workers are leaving, and the goldfield buildings vanish - but the new building in that state, is available "Goldmines" which are infinite sources of gold, and rather powerful.
As for Goldfields being rediscovered in the same state. I'm not sure if that's a bug, or intentional.
Oh and, take everything I say with a mountain of salt of course, I don't own the game, so I can't possibly know this :)
