Hows 1.8.3 so far?
Worth investing another run? Have the issues of 1.8 truly been resolved... 1.8 felt "off" my latest run, don't want to invest more time here unless the balance feels/is better.

Apologies for the vagueness, I just want to take the temp from players who have sunk a play-through already.

They didn't change the balance in this patch except for maybe some migration stuff. Otherwise it's the same.

absolutely horrible patch, i reverted the patch back to the previous patch, you guys did not add on anything to the game it just made it so much more annoying and unstable, playing non major powers your stuck with constant turmoil and the horrible new activist menu is absolutely horrible and makes no sense, the previous patch was by far more stable and made more sense, now i have constant rising turmoil through my game and i cant prevent it cause no laws are available to be passed, you need to improve the game not make it worse, it would be nice if you added some new buildings to the game aswell, hospitals, food banks, actual banks, contruction buildings like, brick laying, or cement factories, gun powder factory, you guys are just doing nothing just trying to do minor adjustments to feel like your actually doing something, add on to the game not be lazy and make dumb changes that make no sense

Played India. Sepoy rebellion unavoidable. Won the revolt but the peace was bugged and lost access to some subjects. Just stare at your kitchen sink if you want entertainment

There's definitely a lot of over the top negativity, so as someone who genuinely enjoyed 1.7, honestly 1.8.3 is still incredibly undercooked unfortunately. A lot of the additions feel like good ideas in concept but that's about it. The new political movements still only have a range from actively stopping you from passing laws to randomly trying to secede and only makes the revolution problem even worse (they get a lot of states with like 3% support) while removing the only good things from agitators, in fact even rendering agitators useless. The new chartered companies are built around being taxed so playing as a subject nation is strictly the worst experience in the game still, a holdover problem from 1.7 that it's unrealistic and incredibly unfun to play with a 30% bingo dollar tax, now raised up to 40% if you're a chartered company. Fun fact, not only did the EIC not actually pay that much in taxes to britain IRL, they actually consistently cost the british government money to maintain power. So yes, unfortunately we're kind of in the situation right now where you can really only play one of 5 nations in a way that is satisfying. (Britain, France, Prussia, Austria, USA) I'd give it another month before 1.8 is in a playable state, honestly.

I'm finding 1.8.x to be terrible on the whole. I play Victoria 3 in batches, coming back to it every so often. I've spend several days on many attempts to make a functional USA but have ultimately failed. Successions - always, no matter what direction I go I end up with never ending, non-negotiable successions. They don't stop, they spread to different states that I believed have no interest in joining and I cannot find any actions I can take to stop or even hinder them.

I did not used to have this problem - pre 1.8 I was successful most of the time playing the USA. Pre 1.8 failures that I ran into made sense. The game as it currently stands, I haven't figured out how to build a stable USA.

Better 1.8.3 is better than 1.8 is all i can say.

Broken since the hotfix. Just redid my shader cache and my game crashed immediately when I tried to load in again.

1.8 is not good. Pivot of Empire was a flavor pack with a handful of events. The updates to the UI always seem to go the wrong direction.

Between the updates and crashes I haven't finished a century in all of 2024.

Countless crashes is all I can say. It's simply silly how unstable it is now.

I keep crashing so I reverted to 1.7.7

Wasn't 1.7.7 that idiotic "halloween" patch? I've reverted to 1.7.6 instead.

Disable the cache pre-loading, and force the game to generate its own shaders.

How do i do that? Do I just skip the vulcan shaders when prompted?

Steam normally downloads pre-compiled shaders to speed up loading times. However, for this game version, they seem to do more bad than good. Disable this function under settings-downloads-precaching, then start the game, and let it compile its own shaders.
