So it's kind of a dilemma: you auto save, it crashes; you don't save, it crashes every now and then and you lost every thing. So I have developed a occasionally manual save tactic, I managed to make it to 1858 so far which I have played around 8 hours today with 10+ crashes.
After the last update, I decided to give it another chance. When I am trying to start a new game now, after selecting "play any country", the game crashes immediately without even loading the map for country selection. This has happened twice now. Both times, I was even unable to send a crash report to Paradox due to an "unknown error".
EDIT: As others have recommended, I tried to overcome the problem with a clean install. It crashed a third time just like the two times before. At least, the after-crash UI let me send a report now.
Nevertheless, I am not impressed so far. Let me know as soon as the developer got his stuff together, please. I am still somewhat eager to actually play the game I paid for.
I thought they were up to date but it turns out nvidia launched an app that now has to take care of installation so the "gforce experience" that I was using was broken.
Once my drivers were updated, the crashes during the game and at launch stopped entirely.

Computer seems fine now. Any ideas of what may have happened?
did that and played for 3-4 hours, left and came back again and game's still going, had another crash b4 reading the above comment, hopefully it works for real
I monitored the performance of my PC when Victoria 3 (the game of concern) was running. Temperature seems to be in the mid range. However my GPU and GPU Memory maxes out as well as my 99th% FPS. I get the ticking seemingly when these max out. Both drives involved are M.2s not mechanical. I have a SSD but that's for MSFS exclusively.
Totally unplayable
