So, no more reducing autonomy?
I just want to make sure I understand this and that I'm not missing anything.

With the new update, you cannot reduce the autonomy of a subject nation by force? That is, you need to decrease their liberty desire to a certain point such that they'll willingly agree, and cannot force them to accept via diplomatic play. Is that correct?

indeed

Somebody needs to add it back with a mod or hope paradox realizes their mistake

Yikes. That...doesn't make any sense.

I haven't done this yet but I would bet you can force them to reduce autonomy through a diplomatic play if they try to declare independence, which they may try to do as there are now diplomatic actions to support the independence of subjugated country.

Now whether it would be easier to make them angry, raise their liberty demand as high as possible, then call in allies or great powers to crush them when they try to gain independence or be as friendly with them as possible and have them join your power bloc so you can slowly push down their liberty desire until you are allowed to attempt to reduce their autonomy I can't say yet as I haven't played enough to try both these things out since the new update.

I guess that's probably true. It could just go both ways, though. Either side should be able to force the issue.

I think there might be a way but im not sure, but honestly it faster this way because there is no long ass time gate on reducing it, you hit the thing press the button and are good.
you can reduce autonomy but its a bit finicky and requires good relations and low liberty desire. cant force reduce autonomy as far as i can see.

Idk what you mean. You cannot reduce it now, unless they want you to, which doesn't really make sense. Tail wagging dog, etc. You don't gain the ability to do so by default over time.

Yes, that's what I'm getting at.

"Ah, I see our troops are ready to commence the incursion and annex this territory"
"We can't, your highness!"
"Why not, general?"
"Sir; we've just learned they don't want to be annexed!"
"Good God, why didn't they say so?! Call off the operation immediately!"

you can do the roundabout

say there are three countries

country 1 is your protectorate

country 2 is your protectorate

country 3 is independent

country 1 attacks 3. country 2 helps 1. You can help country 3 against both 1 and 2 in return for wargoal lower autonomy against 2.

Not sure if bug or a feature, but worked for me.

I cannot play anymore to this game without the diplomatic play reducing the autonomy of a subject.
The DLC makes the game worst... Unbelievable
Nate700 Jun 27, 2024 @ 2:00pm
They just removed one more! You can't regime change your subjects anymore!
