About "virtual memory": I recommend to read there ...
https://superuser.com/questions/1090569/what-is-the-optimal-virtual-memory-size-for-8-gb-ram-win-10#1090580
There is no absolute rule.
Edit: If the error message has actually/directly to do with the virtual memory setting of your system, then you should check it out.
Edit2:
@John Hadley ... please give us the source of your diagnosis "When this happens it is a sign that you don't have enough virtual memory."
If you have 64 GB ram then perhaps you have a different problem. I would still try to increase the size of the swap file to see if that helps. If it doesn't then you could just put the settings back. I play the game now with 24 GB ram and 10 GB swap file and I haven't had the game crash for in like 5 days of playing over 8 hours a day.
The game does also run into some kind of issue on Intel 12th to 14th gen processors that requires some people to need a bios update or need to use the task manager to prevent the game from running on the efficiency cores or it can crash. I don't have that so I can't tell you the details about how to solve that issue. If you have 64 GB of RAM then you may very well have a 12th to 14th gen Intel processor.
You should go to the Paradox tech forum and they will have you provide files that give them detailed specs on your PC so they can help you figure out what is going on. The link to it is in the sticky at the top of the forum.
One thing is clear in this issue: Physical RAM usage and availablity is not to confuse with Virtual Memory usage and availability. The system uses both of them differently.
It would help if more Vic3 players can contribute to this issue.
Because I guess that the crash error message can have multiple reasons; just appears whenever the game crashes to desktop (ctd).
