Is Migration broken?
So I've had a few Japan games going recently both before and after the update and I noticed that although there are no laws preventing my pops from moving, they refuse to do so at all. Even when particularly a couple of states have very high migration attraction and pops DID migrate there in pre 1.6 games. Namely Hokkaido & Sakhalin. There's need for pops, there are jobs etc. available, but there is zero movement between ANY of my states. 0.000% migration in every state.

I reloaded the game but the same thing remains. I've got Migration Controls, Homesteading, even Racial Segregation hoping to draw in some of the chinese workforce eventually but there's zero movement.

Did anyone play the 1.6 beta? Is this intended or what? It seems really weird.

perhaps internal migration requires cultural communities to happen. I have not played much of the update so I can not confirm sorry.

We're talking about Japan here. Every state but Sakhalin has Japanese as a Cultural Community so that shouldn't be an issue at all. There's literally 0.000% migration movement to/from ANY state in all of Japan. Which really puts down my hopes of mining the gold up in Hokkaido and generally colonizing anywhere at all if the pops just won't move.

I am wondering if this is a bug or a broken mechanic or if I am somehow missing something, although I am not doing anything differently from previous version where I never saw such an issue once the appropriate laws had been passed to allow for movement.
Ok so I had this issue too and got really annoyed so I figured I'd try something. I just chose USA and took all the states via debug mode, let a week go by, released Japan as independent, and it worked... they started migrating. So I think it's something to do with the country starting the game as closed borders makes the pops NEVER able to go anywhere even if the policy changes. Really dumb and I hope they fix it because I know not everyone wants to use debug but that's one avenue you can try in the meantime.

There were not only external but also internal travel restrictions on Japan during this period, it may probably be some game mechanic simulating those restrictions.

Prussia player here with no internal migration. Don't understand why there aren't more threads about internal migration being nonexistant.

Let me be clear, I have played Japan a lot the last few days, so both before and after the recent 1.6 update. I am seeing the exact same set of laws and restrictions as before where pops would move between states i.e internal migration - but this is not happening post 1.6. The pops are absolutely refusing to move even after the law changes.

So someone on the PDX Forums has toyed around with it and it appears to be the law "Migration Controls" doesn't understand the difference between that and closed borders and acts like closed borders in 90% of cases. Only in specific scenarios like having Multiculturalism does it allow for migration.

So it seems you might be able to "save" your games by getting Open Borders enacted, otherwise we just gotta wait for a fix for this broken patch.

post #16 PDX :
"Hey there,
thanks for all the feedback!
We will look into the topic. It's not immediately obvious to me what might be broken here (if anything) and this never showed up in internal tests, so we'll need to investigate it a bit.
But we're aware and will see if we need to adjust something or what else the next steps are."

Playing Japan too, no migration, tried in debug mode changing the laws also doesn't work :steamfacepalm:

you currently need a workshop mod to half fix migration because the the community hotfixed before the devs

I agree that something goes wrong with migration system. People are starving to death rather than leave

Zero internal migration as Qing with vanilla 1.6.1 version. Twinkling with debug mode to activate multicultural law and no migration control law DO NOT work. Downloading workshop fix mods also DO NOT work. It's hopeless like Rome Imperator all over again. Only if Dev team could take more time with fixing bugs and less time playing with trains.:steamfacepalm:

I'm playing as Russia and didn't realize until building the Suez canal that my migration was broken. No internal migration. My Lithuanian pops are participating in a mass migration to USA. And Estonia, which I stupidly only built barracks and naval bases in, can't gain any population to resupply my military.

Other annoying bugs that I doubt are related:

Formations are constantly mislabeled on the map. Wrong type (army/Navy), wrong count, wrong country, etc. It corrects once clicking on a formation and going into the formation panel.

A political movement (National Supremacy in my case) keeps enabling and disabling, filling up the right side of my screen.

I have the same problem, usually when pausing the game and jumping to another region of the map. Once I unpause the game, the labels usually are corrected within a second.

This forces me to unpause-pause the game since v1.6 quite often since the army/navy labels at first glance now are completely random, eg showing a 1 battalion enemy army as size 17 while your own size 10 army is shown as size 3.

Japan runs are just broken now. Migration with migration controls is not working, can't invade Alaska to get Recognition.
