Become protectorate has been removed?

I played the game for free and made the decision to buy it in the end, so I am fairly new to all of this
I have seen many playthroughs as Greece and most of them had the strategy to just become a protectorate
I wanted to try that but the option is just not there anymore
was it just removed like that?

These are the requirements. If you go to unavailable diplomatic plays in your diplomacy screen it will say why you’re not able to use that play.

Alright, checking back into those videos the options is there from day 1
for me it doesn't show up day 1 or ever
all playing greece

It's not even that it is unavailable, the option isn't even there
at first i thought it was a couple mods im using but no even in vanilla

The relationship with the nation they joined with may be different than what you have. Possibly even at day 1

It just isnt there, i noticed that too .. day 1 protectorate was something i did often

never in my experience with this game i have ever seen the option
towards every country

It looks like it was changed in the update.

“Removed diplomatic actions to become/demand subject and ask for independence (these are now done through diplomatic demands instead)”

great so now it is quite literally impossible to form byzantium without playing 3k hours of the game cool

I don’t know. I am not familiar with the difference between a diplomatic demand and a diplomatic play is.
