Give back territory?

Is there any way to give back a protectorate of mine some territory it lost? The provinces in question are now separate states, but also are puppets of my empire. I can't even offer them as a bargaining chip in a diplomatic play, they simply don't show up on the list.

This is somehow a problem with my specific circumstances. My protectorate, China, can't receive any kind of "transfer state" offers except for the ones in a personal union. Other vassals, no matter their rank, can get all offers as usual. I guess that this is yet another bug?

Okay, the AI has officially lost its marbles. France, despite having a high opinion and a "conciliatory" attitude, decided to declare war on my protectorate China. So, it's either the diplomacy system being bugged, or simply China in general.

Yes lol, subjects trigger me to no end, I wish I could build in there states as well, its such a problem you can't.

Yes, you have no other choice but to annex them, yet this raises your infamy. This whole diplomacy system needs some serious overhaul.

I don't know why its not in the game but in every other one of paradox's games, like why can't I expand subjects territory in regions they claim. Its just missing so many basic features.

The game was released after being finished by about 30-40%, and we got some additional 10% through updates. The rest will be probably sold as DLCs.
