how to be the only candidate of german unifcation

im playing prussia but to make north germany it says i have to be the only candidate of german unifcation so how do i do that

conquer the other contenders or puppet them i think taking over leadershop from austria also does something

first you need to solve the holstein question, by puppet or conquest holstein and schleswig.

then you need at least nationalism or Pan Nationalism research to do the Leadership play against Austria (find it in the Culture -> Nation Formation and then choose Germany) then you would see who supports who

after that, you should have the Journal Entry for the North German Confederation, which includes all but Bavaria, Baden and Würtemberg.

and when you allign them to you too you should be able to do Germany.

However you can usualy skip the North German Confederation

Alligning the Countrys in itself is easy , you just need to get +80 Opinion and they need to be in your Custom Union, when you have that all, they usually should upport you in forming Germany

There is a special wargoal for revoking claim of the unification candidate. So you can go to war with it vs another candidate.

IIRC, it's in the formation tab in culture screen

For some reason the UI is an absolute rat's nest. The nation formation stuff is under culture.
