Did the new update break old saves?

Keep crashing when trying to load my old save EVEN after changing back to 1.2.7. Any ideas?

Not only does paradox have to ♥♥♥♥ out another scam DLC they also have to ♥♥♥♥ with old saves.

EVERY major patch (in this case 1.3) breaks saves. They said that many times.

BEFORE loading old save (in this case 1.2.7 save), ALWAYS return to old patch (in this case 1.2.7) through Steam Betas. And disable all DLCs that were not available when 1.2.7 was released.

When you try to load old save on new version of the game, you can completely destroy your old save. Which likely happened to you. Now even if you return to 1.2.7, your save will not work, because it's already corrupted.

Ironman? Any mods? Maybe your mod got already updated to 1.3?

If nothing works contact their tech support and send your save to them maybe they will fix it for you.

Unlikely, but maybe your HDD/SSD is dying and corrupted your save? Check your SSD/HDD with CrystalDiskInfo/Victoria (ironic; best tool to do that is called "Victoria" ;) ).

Welp I guess I'll just have to uninstall Vic3 for months until things get sorted. I guess maybe it is a mod but the few I'm running are still on the old version I'm playing. IDK
Even trying to start the game itself. not even a save game, crashes a minute into load screen. Dispels the corrupted save theory at least.

In that case just reinstall V3, reinstall Paradox Launcher and remove everything besides "save games" folder in C:\Users\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Victoria 3

That should help.

I actually just found the problem. A singular cosmetic mod updated to 1.3 was the culprit. 1.3 must've done some real tinkering to the game in the background, usually cosmetic mods are more lenient.

Another thing to check is that you manually deactivate the new DLCs in the launcher, as rolling back to 1.2.7 doesn't know to do that. I've been able to get right back to my old games after finally checking that.
