Can u alter political factions by promoting generals?

I have noticed that many army leaders that I have been promoted to field marshal have become leader of their political group sooner or later. Does anyone been having the same experience?

They can end up leading IG factions. There are also events during elections where a general gives a speech and you can make them the new IG leader as an option.

Or the duel event which can cause IG leaders to die.

Having IG leaders change can be a good thing since they could bring in a different Leader Ideology which may make passing certain laws easier.
Or they could get an ideology that is a pain.

Generals that are aligned with certain IG's also give them a few +% of political strength, depending on his rank, which *can* be useful when you want to boost one of the IG's. Sucks that early in the game most of them are landowner oriented tho

Yes, it's also a good way to stop revolutions or help passing laws.
